HLA Happenings

October 8-14, 2016


Peter Hirst will be in China Oct 8-18. He will present research at the first International Apple Symposium in Yangling and
further research collaborations at both Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University and China Agriculture University in
Beijing.

Krishna Nemali will present Intro to Diversity Lunch and Learn at the HLA Fall Slide Show Lunch on October 11 from
12:00-1:00 pm in HORT 222.
Wednesday, October 12 from 10-11 am, HORT 217
Coffee Hour. Drop in to interact with your colleagues. Graduate Students, this is your chance to chat with
faculty. Please bring your own cup.
Cary Mitchell will participate in the first Horticultural Lighting Conference sponsored by Penn Well LED & Lighting Network in
Chicagos Palmer House Hotel on October 12 and will deliver a keynote address entitled LEDs for Plant Research and
Controlled-Environment Agriculture.

Mindy Appold, Josh Widhalm and Hye-Ji Kim in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture will
participate in the 2016 Faculty Research Trip to DC on October 12 and 13, 2016, along with other 15 faculty members in
the College of Agriculture. This trip is a key component of New Faculty Orientation Series which will provide them great
opportunity to meet and share their research ideas with program managers from major funding organizations such as
USDA and NSF.

Petrus Langenhoven will be presenting a talk on the Basics of Hydroponic Crop Production at the 4th Veteran Farm Tour

2016 HLA Football Tailgate Lunch, October 14, 2016 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, Hort. Garden under the E.C. Stevenson
Pavilion. Please bring your favorite tailgate dish and a drink.
Rosie Lerners article on Sour Mulch Can Burn Tender Plants was picked up and distributed the October 6 issue of
Morning AgClips. Congratulations, Rosie!
The September/October 2016 Purdue Alumnus magazine featured an article on The Purdue Arboretum entitled Perfect
Specimen - Top 10 sexiest plants at Purdue.
