theUttarPradeshspecialtaskforce(STF)wasinformedandthecallstraced.TherevelationleftGudiyareelingher
husbandhadbeenkidnappedbyChambaldacoits.
Gudiya,34,becamethetoastofthetownonTuesdaywhenshenarratedherrecentencounterwithagangofdacoitsin
theChambalregiontoagroupofpoliceofficersfromtheeliteSTF.Herstoryleftevensomeseasonedseniorofficersgaping.
Gudiyashusband,AjitSingh,isalecturerinacollegeinDehradun.GudiyaandtwoofhersonsstaysattheBSFColony
inGreaterNoidaandoftenvisitAjitinDehradun.Afewdaysago,AjitcameherefromDehraduntomeethisbrotherSP
Singh,whoisemployedwithJayPeeGolfCourse.OnAugust5,heleftforAgratodeliveralecture.Thenextday,he
boardedacabtoreturntoGreaterNoida.
WhenhedidnotreturnhometilllateintheeveningonFriday,wegotworried.Wecalledonhiscellphonebutitwas
switchedoff.Weinformedthelocalpolice.TheyaskedustoinformtheAgrapolice,said34yearoldGudiya.Finally,Gudiya
receivedacallfromthekidnappersonSaturday.Takingcontrolofheremotions,Gudiyapledgedtobringbackherhusbandof
12years.
ItoldthemthatIwaspoorandstayinginarentedproperty.IcouldneverpaythemtheRs
10lakhthattheywanted,GudiyatoldthemediaonTuesday.ThefactthatherhusbandwaskidnappedbyChambaldacoits,
didnotdampenGudiyasspirits.ShepackedRs48,000andallherjewelleryinabagandaccompaniedbyadistantcousin,
tookacabtoAgra.
IwasaskedtoreachAgrawhereacarwouldbewaitingforus.Itwasalongdrive.Finally,whenallsignsofcivilization
vanished,thecarstopped.Thedriveraskedmybrothertowaitthere,whileIwasaskedtofollowhim.IthinkIwalkedsome
810km,Gudiyasaid.
Whentheyreachedatemple,themanaskedGudiyatowait.Iwaitedforover30minutesbeforethegangleaderemerged
alongwithadozenmen.Allofthemhadtheirfacescovered.Theleaderwasshockedtoseeme.Heofferedmewater.Itook
mychanceandbeggedhimtosparemyhusbandslife.ItoldhimIwashandingoverwhateverIhad,saidGudiya.
Gudiyatoldthemediathatthethoughtofhertwoboys,agedsixandeight,kepthergoing.Thedacoitchieftoldmethere
wasnowomaninthe50kmradius.Hetookmebysurprisewhenhesatnexttomeandcalledmehissister.Hedidnottake
asinglepennyfromme.Instead,hegavemeRs5,100andanearringandtoldmetoreturnbackalongwithmyhusband.He
saidthatherespectedmybravery.HeevencalledmeonMondayaskingmeifwehadreachedsafely,saidGudiya.
Wasshenotafraid?IwasscaredbutIalsoknewthatifIdie,Iwillbedyingwithmyhusband.Myfatherwasajailorand
heinitiallyresistedmyrelationshipwithAjit.Hehadlockedmeupinthehouse.Ajitusedtoscaleboundarywallstogiveme
loveletters.Thiswasmyturntogetevenonhimonthebraveryquotient.Now,Ijustwantapeaceful,saidGudiya.
