AND LATEST DEVELOPMENT IN ICT
1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 MEANING OF OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE

Open-source software (OSS) is computer software with its source code made available with
a licensees which the copyright holder provides the rights to study, change, and distribute the
software to anyone and for any purpose. Open-source software may be developed in
a collaborative public manner. Open-source software is the most prominent example of opensource development.

1.2 MEANING OF HARDWARE

Computer hardware is the collection of physical elements that constitutes a computer system.
Computer hardware is the physical parts or components of a computer, such as
the monitor, keyboard, computer data storage, hard disk drive (HDD), graphic cards, sound
cards, memory (RAM), motherboard, and so on, all of which are tangible physical objects.
[1]

By contrast, software is instructions that can be stored and run by hardware.

1.3 MEANING OF SOFTWARE

Computer software, or simply software, is that part of a computer system that consists of
encoded information or computer instructions, in contrast to the physical hardware from
which the system is built.

2.0 THE LATEST OPEN SOURCE OPERATION SYSTEM

2,1 MEANING OF OPEN SOURCE OS
open source refers to any program whose source code is made available for use or
modification as users or other developers see fit. Open source software is usually developed
as a public collaboration and made freely available.

2.2 EXAMPLE OF OPEN SOURCE OS

Red Hat Linux 6.7 enhances security by allowing for read-only mounting of removable
media. Operating systems have long offered the ability to restrict data to specified users.
However, one continuing security problem, termed data leakage, exists where an otherwise
authorized user copied secure data to an insecure, removable storage device. This data is then
easy to access without proper security, whether maliciously, or inadvertently. Read-only
mounting of removable media gives users the ability to access data on removable devices,
without allowing them to copy sensitive data to the same.

computing has become ubiquitous and cloud platforms prevalent, the intricacies of time
became increasingly important and an arbitrary insertion of an extra second can have
unintended consequences. The last leap second happened on June 30, 2012 and not all
systems responded well. Many Linux systems, for example, had processes revving up and
utilizing CPU cycles, causing system instability and unanticipated reboots of systems.

3.0 THE LATEST OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE

3.1 MEANING OF OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE
An application program (app or application for short) is a computer program designed to
perform a group of coordinated functions, tasks, or activities for the benefit of the user.

Examples of an application include a word processor, a spreadsheet, an accounting

application, a web browser, a media player, an aeronautical flight simulator, a console
game or a photo editor. The collective noun application software refers to all applications
collectively. This contrasts with system software, which is mainly involved with running the
computer.

3.2 EXAMPLE OF OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE

Blender is a professional free and open-source 3D computer graphics software product used
for creating animated films, visual effects, art, 3D printed models, interactive 3D applications
and video games. Blender's features include 3D modeling, UV unwrapping, texturing, raster
graphics editing, rigging and skinning, fluid and smoke simulation, particle simulation, soft
body simulation, sculpting, animating, match moving, camera tracking ,rendering, video
editing and compositing. It further features an integrated game engine.

Presta a shop is a free , open source e-commerce solution. The software is published under
the open software license(OSL).it is written in the PHP programming language with support
for the My SQL database management system.

4.0 LATESET DEVELOPMENT IN ICT

4.1 HARDWARE (IPHONE 7 &IPHONE 6)

The I Phone 7 and I Phone 7 Plus are smart phones designed, developed, and marketed
by Apple Inc. They were announced on September 7, 2016, at the Bill Graham Civic
Auditorium in San Francisco by Apple CEO Tim Cook, and released on September 16, 2016,
succeeding the i Phone 6S and i Phone 6S Plus as the current flagship devices in the i
Phone series. Apple also launched the devices in 30 additional countries on September 23,
2016, and will launch in India on October 7, another 6 countries on October 14, and in South
Korea on October 21.[9]
The I Phone 7's overall design is similar to that of the I Phone 6S, but with new color options,
added water and dust resistance, a new capacitive home key, and most notably, the removal of
the 3.5 mm headphone jack (an adapter for attaching wired headphones via the Lightning
port, as well as earphones that connect via Lightning, are included with the phone). The
devices' internal hardware also received upgrades, including a heterogeneous quadcore system-on-chip with improved system and graphics performance, upgraded cameras
(including 12 megapixel rear-facing cameras with optical image stabilization on both models,
and an additional telephoto lens on the I Phone 7 Plus model to provide enhanced zoom
capabilities).

The I Phone 6 and I Phone 6 Plus are smart phones designed and marketed by Apple
Inc. The devices are part of the i Phone series and were announced on September 9, 2014,
and released on September 19, 2014. The I Phone 6 and I Phone 6 Plus jointly serve as
successors to the i Phone 5S and were themselves replaced as flagship devices of the i
Phone series by the i Phone 6S and i Phone 6S Plus on September 9, 2015.
The I Phone 6 and I Phone 6 Plus include larger 4.7 and 5.5 inches (120 and 140 mm)
displays, a faster processor, upgraded cameras, improved LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity and
support for a near field communications-based mobile payments offering.[17][18]
The I Phone 6 and 6 Plus received positive reviews, with critics regarding their improved
design, specifications, camera, and battery life as being improvements over previous I Phone
models. However, aspects of the design of I Phone 6 were also panned, including plastic
strips on the rear of the device for its antenna that disrupted the otherwise metal exterior, and
the screen resolution of the standard-sized I Phone 6 being lower than other devices in its
class. Pre-orders of the I Phone 6 and I Phone 6 Plus exceeded four million within its first 24
hours of availabilityan Apple record. More than ten million I Phone 6 and I Phone 6 Plus
devices were sold in the first three days, another Apple record

4.2 SOFTWARE (WINDOWS 10 & WINDOWS 8)

Windows 8.1 (codenamed Blue) is an upgrade for Windows 8, a computer operating

system released by Microsoft. First unveiled and released as a public beta in June 2013, it
was released to manufacturing on August 27, 2013, and reached general availability on
October 17, 2013, almost a year after the retail release of its predecessor. Windows 8.1 is
available free of charge for retail copies of Windows 8 and Windows RT users via
the Windows Store. Unlike service packs on previous versions of Windows, users who
obtained Windows 8 outside of retail copies or pre-loaded installations (i.e., volume
licensing) must obtain Windows 8.1 through new installation media from their respective
subscription or enterprise channel. Microsoft's support lifecycle policy treats Windows 8.1
similar to previous service packs of Windows: It is part of Windows 8's support lifecycle, and
installing Windows 8.1 is required to maintain access to support and Windows updates after
January 12, 2016. However, unlike previous service packs, Windows 8.1 cannot be acquired
via Windows Update.

Windows 10 is a personal computer operating system developed and released

by Microsoft as part of the Windows NT family of operating systems. It was officially
unveiled in September 2014 following a brief demo at Build 2014. The first version of the
operating system entered a public beta testing process in October 2014, leading up to its

consumer release on July 29, 2015. Windows 10 introduces what Microsoft described as
"universal apps"; expanding on Metro-style

apps, these apps can

be designed to run across multiple Microsoft product families with nearly identical code
including PCs, tablets, smart phones, embedded systems, Xbox One, Surface
Hub and Windows Holographic. The Windows user interface was revised to handle
transitions between a mouse-oriented interface and a touch screen-optimized interface based
on available input devicesparticularly on 2-in-1 PCs; both interfaces include an
updated Start menu which incorporates elements of Windows 7's traditional Start menu with
the tiles of Windows 8. The first release of Windows 10 also introduces a virtual
desktop system, a window and desktop management feature called Task View, the Microsoft
Edge web browser, support for fingerprint and face recognition login, new security features
for enterprise environments, and DirectX 12 and WDDM 2.0 to improve the operating
system's graphics capabilities for games.

5.0 PERVASIVE COMPUTING

5.1 MEANING OF PERVASIVE COMPUTING
This paradigm is also described as pervasive computing, ambient intelligence, or "every
ware". Each term emphasizes slightly different aspects. When primarily concerning the
objects involved, it is also known as physical computing, the Internet of Things, hap tic
computing, and "things that think". Rather than propose a single definition for ubiquitous
computing and for these related terms, a taxonomy of properties for ubiquitous computing
has been proposed, from which different kinds or flavors of ubiquitous systems and
applications can be described.

5.2

EXAMPLES OF PERVASIVE COMPUTING

SMART TV

Smart TV, which is also sometimes referred to as "Connected TV" or "Hybrid TV", (not to be
confused with Internet TV, Web TV, or LG Electronics' s upcoming "SMART TV" branded
Net Cast Entertainment Access devices), is the phrase used to describe the current trend of
integration of the internet and Web 2.0 features into modern television sets and set-top boxes,
as well as the technological convergence between computers and these television sets /set-top
boxes. These new devices most often also have a much higher focus on online interactive
media, Internet TV, over-the-top content, as well as on-demand streaming media, and less
focus on traditional broadcast media like previous generations of television sets and set-top
boxes always have had .The technology that enables Smart TVs is not only incorporated into
television sets, but also devices such as set-top boxes, Blu-ray players, game consoles, and
other companion devices. These devices allow viewers to search and find videos ,movies,
photos and other content on the web, on a local cable TV channel, on a satellite TV channel,
or stored on a local hard drive.

GPS

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based global navigation satellite system
(GNSS) that provides location and time information in all weather, anywhere on or near the
Earth, where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites. It is
maintained by the United States government and is freely accessible by anyone with a GPS
receiver. The GPS project was developed in 1973 to overcome the limitations of previous
navigation systems, integrating ideas from several predecessors, including a number of
classified engineering design studies from the 1960s. GPS was created and realized by the
U.S .Department of Defense (USDOD) and was originally run with 24 satellites. It became
fully operational in 1994.

6.0 CONCLUSION
Open Source can be used by anyone and because it has no copyright claims, so users are free
to use, change, and improve the software, and to redistribute it in modified or unmodified
forms. Pervasive Computing is to make our lives easier because we can interact with
computers. Besides that, we can easily give the computer commands and the computer will
grant your wish.
