Respond to each of the following questions with a maximum of

1. Why do you wish to lead an AB trip? Specify what you consider the
overall mission and purpose of the Alternative Break program to be,
and how you believe students can best embody a spirit of solidarity,
rather than straight service, in their issues-based action?

2. What issues are you most personally and educationally invested in?
Specify your personal connection to the realms of social justice you
seek to explore with your trip, and suggest why you are most suited to
lead a group in their consideration of these topics. How have you
already invested in these issues in your personal life (study, service,
independent research, etc)? Consider issues past AB trips have been
organized around (sustainable development, immigration,
homelessness, etc).

3. Highlight all relevant leadership experience you have. Include past


AB experience, as well as other activities that speak to your abilities
to direct, educate, coordinate, and motivate others.

4. If you are selected to lead a trip, how will you carry its mission on
campus and in our local community through post-trip action? Please
be as specific as possible in illuminating the ways in which you will
educate and organize students regarding the specific issues at hand.

5. Reflections are a key element to the AB experience. How will you


facilitate engaging reflections for your group throughout this school
year? Provide a sample reflection activity.

6. What are your other commitments (clubs, RA, service orgs, etc)
during the academic year 2016-17? How will you ensure that you will
be committed to your AB leadership position?

Organizing an Alternative Break trip is a major time commitment and


is considered a 1-year obligation.

All leaders will be required to attend the Alternative Breaks
Leadership course on six Fridays from 3-5 pm and two
Saturday sessions during fall semester 2016.
