3.M.1.2.4 Multiply whole numbers through 10 x 10
3.M.1.2.5 Select and use an appropriate method of computation from mental
math, paper and pencil, calculator, or a combination of the three.
Objective: SWBAT to read the multiplication questions a loud and answer 25 out of 40
questions correctly, verbally or on a piece of paper.
Materials Needed: Dice, Marbles, and Math Worksheet,
Gain Attention: What is multiplication?
Input and Modeling:
Why should I do this?
This is a fun and interactive way to learn multiplication better.
1. First, do a review with the children. Have flashcards ready to test their knowledge. Go
through each flash card at least once. Answer any questions when needed.
2. Give each student a multiplication sheet and tell them to keep it face down until told.
When they turn it over they will have two minutes to go as far as they can on their
worksheet, if they do not finish that is okay.
Check for Understanding: Play a visual game of multiplication. With the materials provided,
allow the students to say the multiplication word problem a loud and have the students visually
represent the problem and write their answers. Without their knowledge, time how long it takes
them.
Word Problems:
1. There are 3 groups of students with 4 students in each group, how many total students are
there?
2. Alyssa has six five dollar bills. How much money does she have?
3. Sam goes out to lunch with Sally and Jessica. Each person orders the $6 lunch special.
Sam agrees to pay for everyone. How much was the bill?
4. Benny was at the beach for five days and found nine seashells each day. How many
seashells did Benny find during his beach trip?
5. Bobby worked 4, 8 hour shifts at work. How many hours did he work?
6. Jessica has 7 nickels in her bank. How much money does Jessica have in nickels?

7. Mike goes fishing with Tyler. Mike catches 5 trout. Tyler catches twice as many trout as
Mike. How many trout did he catch?
8. A restaurant sold nine salads and four pizzas every day for a week. How many pizzas
were sold?
Guided Practice: Give each child a set of dice, each of them needs to roll it five times. As they
roll it they should write down on a piece of paper what numbers they got and what the answer is
when they multiply it. If the students have any questions about how to play the teacher should
clarify.
Closure: What did you like about what we learned today?
Independent Practice: The students will now take a two minute assessment, with harder
multiplication problems.
