TheInternationalFilmFestivalofIndia(IFFI)wouldbeshiftedfromheretocityoutskirtsatDonaPaulawhere
sophisticatedfacilitieswouldbebuiltby2019tohosttheprestigiousevent,ChiefMinisterLaxmikantParsekar
saidtoday.
IFFIhasbeenorganisedinthecoastalstateeveryNovembersince2004whenitwasshiftedfromNewDelhi.
"TheinfrastructurewouldbesetupinaplacewhichwasearlierearmarkedtosetupInformationTechnology
HabitatnamedafterformerPrimeMinisterRajivGandhi,atDonaPaula,"theCMsaid.
ThatITparkprojectwasscrappedin2006inthewakeofprotestsbylocalsandthelandiscurrentlylying
unutilised.
Initsmeetingtoday,thestateCabinetclearedtransferof2.97lakhsquaremetresoflandtoEntertainment
SocietyofGoa(ESG),thespecialpurposevehiclecreatedtohostIFFI.
ParsekarsaidtheinfrastructureatDonaPaulawouldbereadyin2019whenGoawillhostthe50theditionof
IFFI.
Thegovernmenthasdecidedtoputupfacilitieslikeconventioncentre,cinematheatres,ahotelwith1000plus
rooms,officeofDirectorateofFilmFestival(DFF),officeofESGandotherrequiredinfrastructurerequiredfor
theevent.
ParsekarsaidtheinternationalstandardfacilitieswouldbeconstructedatDonaPaulawhichwillbepermanent
homeforthefestival.
