Missionaries
in the Philippines since 2004

Dear Praying Friends and Supporters,

One of the first things we did upon arriving in the Philippines in 2004 was start holding
Neighborhood Bible classes. Miraflor was a part of that first class in the first area where
we started. When we started the church in May, we began bringing children from that
area with us to church. Miraflor was one of our first Sunday School kids, and she
participated in our first Childrens Christmas Program.
About a year later, when she was 12, her mother came to our gate and offered to give
Miraflor to us. Her family did not have the money to support her and the new children
by the new father were the more important to them. Because of the age of our own
children, we felt that we could not do that. She was then shuffled to a relatives house to
work and help support the family. When she was 14 years old and about to enter her first year of highschool,
we figured out a way to help her. We began sponsoring her schooling and paying for her clothes and meals.
She moved back in with her mom and stepdad, but we supported her physically and emotionally. Pastor
Elbern, our youth pastor at the time, spent many hours in counseling with her. She was faithful to church, and
we all looked out for her. It was a really proud moment the first time that she taught a Neighborhood Bible
Class! In the way that she was reached with the gospel, she was now reaching other children.
Upon graduation from highschool, she enrolled in our Bible college as part of the first full-time student classes.
In October, we held our commencement exercises for Lighthouse Baptist College. To see this young lady
graduate from Bible college is a moment that is hard to describe.
By investing in this little girl from the time that she was 11 years
old, we made a difference in her future. She is now a junior
member of our church staff. She teaches Sunday School, and she
mentors other sponsored students in whose lives we are also trying
to make a difference.
III John 1:4 says, I have no greater joy than to hear that my
children walk in truth. Whether they are my physical children or
my spiritual children, nothing brings greater joy!
