Editors Letter
Hey Tech buddies!
Hows it going? Youre reading the new issue of Techmates,
the E-magazine of the Erasmus+ project. In this issue you can read about the future technology.
Oh, yes the future. Have you ever been thinking about the future? What will it bring and these
sorts of things? Im sure you have. And what about looking into the future of the technology?
I think we cant say exactly which technological experiments will be the newest one because as
soon as we predict something will happen in the technology field it is already done. So it is the
fastest-growing field of study. The 5th issue of Techmates is dealing with the future of
technology in various technology areas. Our Turkish friends are describing the future of ICT
and media technology. People say we, teenagers, born into it, were already experts of ICT
technology. The Polish techmates are depicting their studies in the future of household
machinery technology. The Greece buddies have looked into the future of transportation
technology. The latest transportation technology inventions are shown here. Fast cars, planes
and trains, very good reading not only for boys. The Swedish technology mates were studying
the using of alternative energies in the future. Very useful by the way. We were dealing with
a serious topic medical and biotechnology in the future. I recommend it. The last article in
this issue is about the future technology of education. The most important topic for us. Enjoy
this issue and have fun!!!

Media in the future

What is media Technology?

What will be the next media technologies?

Thats Technology and methods that support

human communication over distances in time
and space. Media means Communication
channels through which news, entertainment, education, data, or promotional messages are disseminated. Media includes
every broadcasting and narrowcasting medium
such as newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, billboards, direct mail, telephone, fax,
and internet. The general trends in media today are towards a digital world . All types of
information will be captured, processed and

Mobile is going to be the new mass media by definition. The

future mobiles will be Multi-sensory. The device will work
with the sense of smell, sight, hearing and touch. The user will
experience communication on a multi-sensory level. It can detect, transmit and emit smell. It can also radiate colours, light
and temperature from a caller's environment . A new generation of mobiles with Artificial Intelligence will be able to express a user's feelings, such as anger. The phone will also automatically recognise the voice of the user, allowing communciation between them and their mobile.

distributed digitally.

Wearables : your tomorrows clothes Smart

watches will collect data, pulse sensing Smart
bracelet. These devices will come into stage
from simple and clever, to complex and sophisticated forms. We can anticipate that such devices are going to be increasingly connected,
able to sense our location and surroundings.
They will not need limited screens. Holograms
will help. Voice recognition and dictation will
have heightened utility versus more traditional screen-based devices. Because of this, an
entirely new wave of social media platforms
and applications will be developed for voice
(think Twitter-HeyTell hybrids, voice search,
or Siri).
In the next 40 years
mobile communication will
be ;
1. Beyond touch
2. More video and data

Media technologies will become smaller, more mobile,

ubiquitous, and at the same time smarter and capable of
perception and feeling. Personal and mass communication
will change. A new infrastructure will be created, giving everyone access to digital services with the development of biotechnology artificial intelligence and nanotechnology. In the future,
the walls of our sitting room will have digital screens. We will
watch 3D televisions without screens. We wont have PC at our
offices. We will be using disposables computers, the information
will be easily transfered by cloud system.
ePaper : will certainly replace the traditional newspaper in the future

How will be the internet in future?

The internet is arguably one of the most effective tools in media for communication. People have different hopes
and fears for the digital future. In the future data powers
everything. Maybe people will be able to control their data,
even be able to write Smart services will contribute to a less
cluttered, more streamlined online world .
" In the future the Internet will operate more like electricity does today,
as an unseen part of the infrastructure around us that we notice only
when its not present. "- Sarah Green

3. Machine-to-Machine (M2M
4. Graphene and new mobile
form factors
How will we feed our devices? Sure they will
require electricity any where. There is the
possibility of using the earths tide to produce energy, to send wireless messages to the
planet Mars, or to build a machine that
would read minds.

Traditional tv channels will be replaced by unique

"personalised" web channels, covering practically
any subject or combination of subjects imaginable. These are filtered
and customised to the exact tastes
and requirements of the individual
and are viewable anywhere, at
anytime.

Hologram meetings will be more interactive, collaborative and streamlined than ever beforeculture change. It is clear the future will continue to bring innovations.

Household machineries in the future
Smart refrigerator

In today's world
of modern technology, we want to make our life
easier and more comfortable. We
cannot imagine life without a modern technology, without a mobile
phone or a Smartphone. This small
object with a special application can
control various devices in the kitchen. Using the new technologies and
appropriate apps you can control
and monitoring household machineries in your house, for example
fridge, oven, microwave, coffee machine. You can use these apps
whenever you are, from any locations. The application can also remote monitoring system and control
the devices via voice commands or
touch screen in your Smartphone.
Very important is that it is possibility that you can control the different
devices on the way from your work
or school. You will be able to turn
on the oven, you can check the list
of products in your fridge or turn on
a coffee maker. And its all thanks
to intelligent technology.

An intelligent and modern fridge can be presented

as a complete system of
food management. Using a
door display on the fridge
or a Smartphone you can
check out what kind of
products are inside the
fridge without opening the
fridge door. The special
app on the Smartphone can
also check the valid of different things in the fridge.
The app can recommends
the dishes which can be
prepared from the ingredients contained in the

Intelligent oven

fridge. The new Screenfridge will help you with

grocery shopping and dinner ideas, keep track of
what you have in your
fridge, and function as a
message centre for the
whole family.

Lets imagine an intelligent oven.

You will be able to control it using an
app in your Smartphone. You will be
able to search recipes, check how to
prepare meals and diagnose any problems. You can even modify existing
recipes, substitute ingredients, and
write your own from scratch to share
with cooks around the world. Using the
Smartphone you will be able to program the oven, set the temperature,
cooking time. Youll always know the
exact temperature of the oven, the temperature of the food youre cooking,
and how much time is left until dinner.

Transportation in the future - GREECE

Autonomous Vehicles
Much effort will go into saving
energy, eliminating carbon
fuels and minimizing environmental impacts. Imagine stepping into your car after work
and being shuttled home at the
touch a button, without having
to worry about rush hour traffic
or aggressive drivers. This will
be the norm, once cars can
drive themselves. The real challenge in transitioning to driverless transportation is on the
safety
and
regulatory
front. Autonomous transportation will impact everything
from highway traffic patterns to
inner city congestion to commercial parking infrastructure,
with major implications for city
planning requirements. Selfdriving cars also make commuting more convenient, which
may help to ease overcrowding
in big cities as more people opt
to live in outlying neighborhoods. As autonomous vehicles
continue to evolve, new opportunities will emerge for entrepreneurs to innovate up and
down the tech stack to ensure
these vehicles operate safely
and smoothly.
Connected Cars
There is a lot of valuable data
locked up in a cars On-Board
Diagnostic System, and clever
startups are increasingly taking
advantage of
the
OBD-II
standard
to
extract
this
data and package it into commercial applications. Automatic offers a device
that provides a Smart Driving

Assistant with tips to save money

on gas and vehicle maintenance,
MetroMile sells a device enabling
pay-per-mile auto insurance, and
MileIQ uses a smartphones GPS
and accelerometer to help selfdirected workers track mileage
for tax reimbursement purposes
without any onboard device at
all. The next step in ride-hailing
and car sharing will be a combination of these new app-based
services with self-driving cars.
This will be unfortunate for those
drivers who want to continue to
make money from driving, but
users will still benefit from these
services.
Transportation tech is not
only changing how we get
from A to B, its fundamentally altering the underlying infrastructure of our cities.
Since the late 19th century, the

invention of automobiles, airplanes, subways, and other new

forms of transportation have
shaped where and how we
live. Cars led to suburban flight
by enabling longer commutes,
while modern transit systems
helped facilitate urbanization.
This brings us to the 21st century,
where ridesharing, electrification,
connected cars, and autonomous
vehicles promise to give rise to a
new transportation paradigm.
These factors are likely to reduce
car ownership, consolidate fueling and parking infrastructure,
and lead to a more dynamic, interconnected transit system.

Where Driverless Technology

is Being Used
Technology is constantly changing how we think about transportation. Improvements can already
be seen in modern buses: adjustable seats, lighting, automatic announcements and ticket validation systems. the latest developments in driverless technology
will affect public transportation.
The future application of driverless technology is still open, and
there are several possibilities to
explore.
While CityMobil2 is currently
being tested in Trikala, Greece,
several cities are already incorporating driverless technology into
their transportation systems.
Lausanne, Switzerland was one of
the first places to test and receive
a driverless shuttle bus. Driverless technology into public transportation. Improved features can
help passengers feel safe and comfortable as they travel. Automatic
technology can also improve efficiency, helping people arrive to
their destinations much faster.

Googles Driverless Cars

On May 27th, Google announced
its newest iteration of the selfdriving car, sans steering wheel or
brakes. Googles previous version,
which had all of the normal controls of a standard car, allowed
the driver to take over in case of
emergency.

Solar energy is a renewable energy,

because we take the energy from the
sun and the sun is shining almost every day, Some days we cant see the sun
but its often because the clouds obscure. Long time ago we didnt have so
many and easy ways to extract energy
from the sun. Now we often use solar
cells to extract energy from the sun.
When the sun meet the solar cells the
solar cells make energy from the sunbeams and we use that energy to the
electronic things in our home. And to
heat water. Disadvantages is that its
very expensive with a big solar cell, for
example if you want to have it on the
roof of your house. A good thing with
solar cells is that you can have it even

Wind Energy
The inventor

Disadvantages

The wind energy has been used for a very

long time and the first man who developed
energy form the wind to electricity was Poul
la Cour. He was Danish but his name was
French.

Some bad things is that many

people think that the wind
turbines doesnt look nice and
make a disturbing noise. They
are very big too, which means
that they make shadows.

Advantages
Some good things about using wind energy
is that its renewable and good for the
environment. The electricity is very safe to
transport. The turbines can work almost
always, if its windy.

Ocean Wave Power
But how do ocean wave power work?
There are different wave power technologies, some are made to be close to

the sea. One kind of wave energy sta-

part is a boay place with a rope. The
boay floats up on the surface of the sea

Ocean wave power has a lot of development potential, many countries are
doing research about it. Sweden is at
the forefront of research, ocean wave
power will maybe be a major industry in the future. But it is a long road
ahead, ocean wave power is really
expensive to extract. It will not be a
major energy source before the price
go down.

How much do the wave power affect

the sea? No one really know the answer
to this question, because wave power is
still so new. Some say it is good and it

it is not good. So we have to wait for

Biomass Energy

Biomass use renewable energy from

living or recently living organic materials. Types of these are: wood and
wood waste, our garbage, food (like
corn from farms).

1.KSRR gives us green bags and we

throw our food rests there.
2.When its full we throw the bag in
a trashcan.

Benefits: Its a cost effective way of

recycling municipal (house) and agricultural (farm) waste and making
it into energy for houses and companies.

3.Then the garbage truck take all the

trash.
4.In an optical sorting station green
bags and normal bags gets sorted out with camera techniques.

Consequences: It does release greenhouse gases but much lesser than

fossil fuels does. There is technology
to make the greenhouse gases even
less but the cost is only suitable for
bigger causes.

5.After the waste is pretreated and

grinded down to a substrate, its
send to a biogas cause where it
gets turned into biomass.

Medical and biotechnology in the future

What is biotechnology?
Biotechnology is a technology that includes biology, biochemistry, physics,
chemistry, engineering, materials science and computer science. The main aim of
biotechnology is to applicate science and technology to living organisms.
Biotechnologists make research into large and small organisms, plants, animals and
humans, into the very small components, such as individual cells or molecules.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a medical imaging technique, used in radiology to
visualise detailed internal structure of the body. Present-day MRI scanners fill entire
rooms, scans require 30 minutes to create and are very expensive. By the 2050s,
experts believe that portable, handheld MRI scanners will be available. This new
machines will be able to detect the tiniest magnetic fields, 3D imaging of internal
structures and brain activity would be possible in real-time video, using devices no
bigger than a camera.

Malaria
Malaria is an infectious disease of humans caused by mosquitos. It is widespread in tropical and subtropical
regions. Symptoms are fever and headache, in some cases coma and death. In 2011 a gene modified against
malaria was successfully spread throughout a whole population of mosquitoes. In the future, the widespread
of such a technology could eradicate the disease from the world.

Nanobots
Microscopic robots are expected to be developed in the mid-2020s. These tiny machines will be available for a
variety of medical uses. Their size will enable them to reach places in the human body that were simply
inaccessible before. Using nanobots, it will be possible to detect tumours earlier than
ever before. In the 2030s, 90% of cancers may be cured as a result of this.

Organ transplants
By 2020, scientists expect to have complete replacements in transplants. There wont
be external donors. The organ will be genetically matched to the patient. The natural, living tissue is more
flexible, sophisticated than artificially built components. So this new treatment will offer hope to millions of
people affected by cardiovascular disease. Other organs may be developed in the 2020s: lungs, livers, kidneys,
spleens, stomachs and sexual organs could all be made available by the end of the decade.

Surgical sutures
In the near future, doctors will no longer have to use a needle and thread to seal wounds. Pen-shaped devices
are being developed, using lasers in combination with a blood protein called albumin. Heated this forms a
natural "glue" after the skin has cooled down. Using this method allows a wound to be
stronger, water-tight, and less likely to scar than traditional stitches.

Tooth regeneration
Tooth regeneration may soon be available for humans. Using a combination of stem
cells, scaffold material and signaling molecules, a fully functional and living tooth could be regrown in around
two months. Full reconstruction of natural, healthy teeth in patients without bone support will be possible.

FUTURE TECHNOLOGY
IN EDUCATION

In the future classroom, students will

need an electronic device to access all
their homework and all other learning resources in the Cloud. Such convenience
will provide students the freedom to work
on their projects or homework anytime
and anywhere. The digital library is accessible even when the campus library is
not.

By Ludovica Crisconio, Giulia Greco, Emanuela Lentinello, Benedetta Orsini

We would like to predict how schools will

adopt new technologies and how they will
be able to change education for the better.

Today schools can already use a cloud

technology and set up online learning
platforms for students to log on and attend classes in a virtual environment.

3D Printing

How about a 3D printer for children.

Online Social Networking

The 3D printer should really be a musthave in classrooms because pupils of the

future will be able to print out 3D models
for various purposes, including show-andtell. This device will generate working
mini-models to test out engineering design principles, so students will have perfect designs before making a prototype.
The decreasing cost of 3D printers means
that more teachers will be able to reconstruct complex concept models to teach
theoretical concepts.

Numerous universities have already registered themselves with the online virtual
world, Second Life to provide students
with an online platform to socialize with
each other and to allow students to share
their ideas freely. The platform will suggest learners a new perception about
learning: it is personal responsibility and
not that of the teachers.

Game-Based Learning
Since children spend most of their time
surfing the net or chatting online, their
attention is decreasing more and more. To
face this problem, schools will have to
change a major distractor of learning in a
useful instrument to build knowledge by
using video games.

Cloud computing
My dog ate my homework is a common
excuse when you haven't done your homework, but be careful!
You will not be able to use it any more.
Cloud computing will change many aspects of our society, particularly education.

Flexible Display

Multi-Touch LCD Screens

Over the past few decades weve seen the

transition from blackboard to whiteboard.
The next board is likely to be a giant
touchscreen LCD screen which allows a
greater amount of interactivity. Furthermore, the new board is capable of detecting multiple touch inputs from many students simultaneously. Students will sit
around the table tablet, swipe on the
board to manipulate and drag images
around the screen, or type notes with
their onscreen keyboards. These multitouch surfaces will also allow students to
collaborate live with peers around the
world by manipulating virtual objects in
real time .

Note-taking on memo pads is still very much

alive during lectures, although pen and paper
are still used. In the future classrooms, they
will be completely substituted by keyboards
and screens. These substitutes could be flexible OLED-based displays, just like regular
paper, these displays will be lightweight, flexible and extremely thin, unlike regular paper
however, these plastic e-papers will be unbreakable and interactive.

In the future, education will no longer be re-

cloud computing, online social networking
and adaptive learning systems . Experimentations and mistakes will also be encouraged as
