How the life of a child in India compares to that of an Australian child

At Level 4, students collect information from a range of sources to answer their own and others questions. They question the validity of
sources when appropriate. They applythinking strategies to organise information and concepts in a variety of contexts, including problem
solving activities. They provide reasons for their conclusions.
At Level 4, students identify strategies they use to organise their ideas, and use appropriate language to explain their thinking. They identify
and provide reasons for their point of view, and justify changes in their thinking.
R&R: Students interpret their life, the world and their social context as well as their religious traditions by walking in anothers shoes and
identifying different ways religious elements are valued by themselves and others
LEARNING INTENTION:
To compare their lives as an Australian child to that of the lives of an Indian child and recognise the applicable differences and similarities.

Introduction
(20 minutes)

ACTIVITY 1:
Begin on the carpet
Reflect on what was learnt from the previous lesson as a class
Allow children time to pair share about what they remembered and what they found
interesting from the previous lesson
Go through the powerpoint slides and discuss
Allow children time to pair share about what they saw and what they found interesting

Explain the timeline activity to the children-children are to write a timeline in a day of their life
and in a day of an Indian childs
Body

(30 minutes)

ACTIVITY 2:
Children can complete the previous lessons activity if they have not already done so
For those that have completed the worksheet, they can begin this lessons activity
Children develop a timeline of their day, and next to it they develop on of and indian childs
day. They can learn about this through their own research. Children can work together to
research information if they would like to.
Early Finishers
Research and write about the opportunities that are available for a child growing up in India

Conclusion
(5 minutes)

Come back to the carpet
Discuss what they discovered and what they learnt?
What did they find interesting?
What did they find surprising?
How did it make them feel learning about children in India?
