Cameco Mine and Mineral Processing Engineering Scholarship

Scholarship

OVERVIEW
Cameco Corporation is committed to
increasing opportunities in the mining,
mineral processing and nuclear energy
industry. In order to promote
employment growth in the identified
industries, Cameco offers a scholarship
to encourage the pursuit of select
engineering disciplines.
In 2015, Cameco is committing $30,000 in
total scholarships to mining and mineral
processing engineering students. The
funding breakdowns are as follows:
Three, $5,000 scholarships will be
awarded to 2nd year Mining and
Mineral Processing Engineering
students at select Canadian postsecondary institutions.
Three $5,000 scholarships (the
one-year renewable portion of the
financial award) could be awarded to
three previous recipients in their 3rd
year of studies. It is important to note
that previous receipt of a Cameco
scholarship does not guarantee
automatic renewal of an award,
students must still meet all identified
scholarship criteria.
The scholarship may be renewed for
one additional year only (for a total
of 2 years)

STUDENT CRITERIA

ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY/CRITERIA

Must have a 2.7 overall Grade Point Average (GPA) or higher and be
in good academic standing as defined by the host institute, college
or university. Applicants must submit their most recent academic
transcripts with the application form.
Students must also submit a short essay (not to exceed 300 words)
expressing interest in or familiarity with the uranium or nuclear
energy industry. Preference will be given to students expressing a
desire to work in Canada.
Must be enrolled in Mining and Mineral Processing Engineering
degree programs at one of the following post-secondary institutions
in Canada:

Dalhousie University

University of Toronto

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Toronto, Ontario

Universit Laval

Laurentian University

Qubec, Qubec

Sudbury, Ontario

Ecole Polytechnique

University of Alberta

Montreal, Qubec

Edmonton, Alberta

McGill University

University of British Columbia

Montreal, Qubec

Vancouver, British Columbia

Queens University
Kingston, Ontario

POTENTIAL WORK EXPERIENCE ELIGIBILITY / CRITERIA


Students receiving the award will be considered for a summer
employment term (e.g., a 10-14 week summer employment term
following each school year in which a scholarship is awarded).
There is no guarantee of a summer employment term with receipt
of the award.
Scholarship renewal for 3rd year students will be contingent upon
academic progress and performance during summer employment
terms and at the discretion of the college, school or university
department staff and the Cameco review committee.

OTHER BENEFITS (GRADUATING STUDENTS)


Recipients in their 4th year of studies will be notified of potential
Engineer-in-Training Opportunities (EIT) prior to graduation.

Applicants will be judged for academic
achievement and a commitment to a
career in the uranium and nuclear energy
industry.

Two letters of reference one from an academic official and one
from a previous employer.
One 300-word essay outlining interest in or familiarity with the
uranium or nuclear energy industry and describing how you are
preparing yourself for a career in the industry.
Resume.
An official, sealed copy of the most recent academic transcript.

COMPLETE APPLICATION PACKAGE FOR PREVIOUS


AWARD WINNERS (i.e., 3rd year students) must be submitted by
October 31, 2014 and must include:
Application form (copy enclosed or you can download a copy from
CIM website: www.cim.org/scholarships).
Two letters of reference one from an academic official and one
from a previous employer.
Resume.
An official, sealed copy of the most recent academic transcript.

The scholarship will be directly applied to


the recipients 2015 tuition account.
Recipients must provide Cameco with
their mailing address, date of birth and
social insurance number for income tax
purposes.
