ENG 1102: Writing and Inquiry in Academic Contexts

Intawiwat
Midterm Reflection

1. I would give myself the grade of an B because I have done all assignments that was asked
of me and turned in it on time also I followed directions on each assignment. I would say
I followed directions on each assignment to the best of my abilities following your
specific guidelines. I especially follow the grade expectation chart on the attempt to
achieve complex strategies of development and pay attention to my audience in each
piece of writing I developed. Yes, I have edited my blogs because as a writer I like to
correct my mistakes and learn from them so I edit the blogs every chance I was given
until I was happy with the end result.
2. When it comes to participation I would give myself the grade of an B or Above average
because I do response to group discussions and blogs also submit comments to my peers
on Moodle before the deadline. In class I always engage in my group discussions and
provide help for my classmates for improvement as they do the same for me. My
attention in the class is pretty good I only missed one day of class I am always early for
class. I always have my materials with me for class for example when in class we are
working on projects I bring my laptop and journal also I always carry my book in my
book bag. The only area I lack in is speaking in class discussions because I get nervous of
talking in front of the class also by the time I raise my hand someone had something
similar to say of what I was going to speak about.
3. I would give my self the grade of an B or Above average. My involvement with
brainstorming/discovery is I found out the writing doesnt have to just be about a prompt
it could be about me and my experiences that I have discovered. I came up with my topic
the other day when I had important news to share with someone and I didnt know who to
turn to and then it hit me happiness is only true when shared. The issues that I hindered
my research is finding sources that are not only blogs or journals. I am going to solve this
issue by looking in the library for academic journals and other sources. So far the only
adjustments I had to made was finding the genre I want to showcase my work.

4. The grade I give myself for this area is an B or above average. The two discussions we
had in class are very helpful as a resource that will be used in my writing. Yes, I feel like
the discussions helped understand the class which is all about self discovery. I feel like
the discussion about shitty first drafts opened my eyes to writing a first draft with out
guilt that your draft is horrible. The discussion about into the wild made me realize that
not everyone is happy living a normal life with material things and college education. My
feelings toward the assignments and how they reflect the SLOs is satisfied, at ease and
encouraged.

My overall grade so far is a B or (Above average) because my when I make some few
grammatical/ mechanical errors that I dont catch sometimes. For example, in for my first class
journal I posted my journal and realize I made some spelling mistakes why typing and I went
back to edit them. I fell weak at the rough draft of the proposal by missing one element and I am
planning to fix it. The only late element I had so far in class is the introduction of my proposal
which I am working on. Like it is stated in the grade expectations chart I felt my thesis statement
for my discussion for into the wild: movie and novel form was insightful. I include some of the
things John Krakauer said and Carnie McCandless. The final grade I want in this class is an A or
extraordinary. I could improve my grade by paying more attention to my style to make sure I am
energetic and precise rather than boring also dull when writing. Also by being more accurate
when it comes to sentence structure which includes less repetition and using the thesaurus to find
synonyms. I only have one question for the expectations for the rest of the semester are we going
to be graded harshly on the portfolio presentation?
