0 Objective
To obtain grading curve of fine aggregate.
2.0 Introduction
A sieve analysis is a practice or procedure used to assess the particle size distribution of a
granular material. The size distribution is often of critical importance to the way the material
performs in use. A sieve analysis can be performed on any type of non-organic or organic
granular materials including sands, crushed rock, clays, granite, feldspars, coal, and soil. Being
such a simple technique of particle sizing, it is probably the most common.
4.0 Procedures
1. 3kg sample of fine aggregate was prepared.
2. The sample then was devided by four. 500g of sample was obtained from one of the
quarter.
3. The aggregate sample then was placed in the mechanical shaker which arranged
according to size.

D10 = 0.21 mm
D30 = 0.51 mm
D60 = 1.08 mm
Cu = 1.08/0.21 = 5.14 mm
Cc = (0.512)/(1.08 0.21) = 1.15 mm
6.0 Conclusion
Sieve analysis is one of a basic parameter in analysing the particle size distribution of soil. From
the graph plotted, D10, D30, and D60 were obtained which is 0.21 mm, 0.51 mm, and 1.08 mm
respectively. Thus, we can find the Coefficient of uniformity and Coefficient of gradation which
is 5.14 mm and 1.15 respectively. The graph also shows that the aggregate we tested are not
suitable as concrete material because the graph do not lies between the upper and lower limit.
