The Presidents Perspective

Alpha Zeta Sisters,
Happy Fall. The weather says summer, but Im sure some cooler weather
is right around the corner. Get ready!
It was great to see everyone at the Gate City meeting. Delegate Kilgore
was very gracious in answering the questions you presented him. It is
imperative the elected officials hear our voices, particularly as it pertains to
the education of our young people. Based on the questions and answers
given, we need to take a strong look at programs that will provide skills
sets for those who do not want to pursue a college track. More vocational
opportunities are a must if we want the current generation to remain in
Southwest Virginia and provide the services that are key to a strong
economy. Consider attending Lobby Day in Richmond on Monday,
January 30, 2017. Our voices need to be heard.
An upcoming event is on the horizon. As you are already aware, Alpha
Zeta members are a talented group of ladies. We will have the opportunity
to highlight one of our members talent at the IOTA State convention in
April. The Fine Arts Festival will be held at that time and each chapter has
been asked to showcase a talent. Talent has been defined as, but not
limited to, vocalist, pianist, seamstress, quilter, artist, potter, weaver,
photographer, etc. Surely we have one person who fits the bill and would
be willing to travel to Richmond (Midlothian), April 28-30, 2017. Details
and application forms are available online at the IOTA State website.
Check it out!
Finally, get out and vote on election day! Regardless of party affiliation (or
no affiliation), your vote matters.
See you on the 5th.
Sara

Delegate Terry Kilgore shared updates on issues

affecting education in the Commonwealth. A big
thanks to Kathy Musick for arranging his visit.

Thanks to our hostesses, Debbie and Amy!

Our talented sister, Sue Carter, presented the

thought of the day AND a song about friendship
for our entertainment. Such talent among our
membership! The flowers were appreciated too.
