Pioneers of Animation

Joseph Plateau This was the first person to introduce the illusion of a
moving image by using his Phenakistoscope. This device used for early
animation for vision and the illusion of vision.

William Horner William Horner was a mathematician who


invented the Zoetrope in 1834. This was an invention was based
on Plateau`s Phenakistoscope, however is was made to be used
more conveniently as it did not require any viewing mirrors. It could
also be used by more than one person at a time.

Emile Reynaud Emile Reynaud was a


French inventor who was responsible for the creation of the first
projected animated cartoons. He did this by using his invention
called the Thtre Optique and his Praxinoscope.

Eadward Muybridge Eadward was an English photography who was famous for

Lumire Brothers They are famous for creating the first motion pictures. Louis
discovered a process which assisted the development of photography. Louis developed a
new 'dry plate' process in 1881. In 1895 the two brother had used a combination of a lot
of their inventions to create Cinmatographe.
