Castles of Japan

Japan is known for having one of


the most beautiful castles in the world.
One of the biggest castles in Japan is
called Himeji Castle which has 93% for
best vote. Unlike many other Japanese
castles, it was never destroyed by war,
earthquake or fire and survives to this
day as one of the country's twelve
original castles. The castle recently
underwent extensive renovation over
several years and was fully re-opened
to the public in March 2015. The
Himeji Castle is located in the former
capital Kyoto. Each castle has many
sets of gate, each castle should
provide around 4 7 dungeons for
criminals within the area. Several rings
of walls and moats serve as the main
defense measure of castles. Osaka
Castle and the former Edo Castle.
Guard towers is known as turrets,
these are watch towers and storage
rooms along the castle walls, often
placed at the corners. Castles usually
have multiple guard towers. They are
much smaller in size than the main
castle tower and are usually made up
of two floors. The palace houses the
lord's residence and offices. Most
castles have lost their palace over
time. A rare surviving example is the
Ninomaru Palace of Nijo Castle. Among
the few castles with reconstructed
palaces are Kumamoto Castle, Hikone
Castle and Nagoya Castle.
