Evolution notes of unit

Class/Period:4
Date: 9.25.16

Essential Question: How can the unit of evolution better help you understand how animals adapt to their
environment?
Questions:
What is evolution?
`
How can things
cause evolution?`
What are darwins
observations/concl
usions?

Notes
Evolution:
Change overtime, process by which modern organisms come
from ancient organisms.
Things that cause changes:
-Sexual reproduction mutations
-studied plants/ animals
CHARLES DARWIN IS CREDITED FOR EVOLUTION
Darwins observations:
-Patterns of diversity- different types of animals
- living organism/fossils
-Galapagos island.
CONCLUSIONS:
-Species evolved from a common ancestor
-Method for why evolution occurred.

If you were a
scientist how would
you know if any of
these theories are
right?

Darwin vs. Lamarck:

Darwin:
Variations of inheritance features change, which already normally
exist.
survival of the fittest
Lamarck:
Environment changes, this creating the need to change.

Summary: I learned that Darwins theory is correct because if Lamarcks theory was right then out body parts
would fall off. For example, if we didnt use our eyes then they would fall off. This proves that Darwins theory is
correct.

Questions:
Do you think
Lamarck is
correct/incorrect?

Notes:
Lamarck is wrong because acquired traits can not be inherited.

EX: Dad has big muscles then the son/daughter will be born with big muscles. (wrong)
This is wrong because the person with the big muscles had to work for them.
