My town
by Javi Romero
I live in a small town near the coast. My grandad moved here when he was nine and he says the town used to be very different.
There used to be three cinemas, but now theres only one. Also, there used to be more small shops in the centre of town. A lot of
them closed when the two big supermarkets opened in the 1980s. Grandad lost his job in a local shoe shop because of this.
When he was growing up, there werent any factories by the river. There were fields with just a few houses, and he often used to
go fishing in the river at the weekend. Thats difficult to imagine now. The water is filthy and there certainly arent any fish there. The
big motorway is new too they finished building that six years ago. Grandad doesnt like it he says its too noisy.
But he agrees that there are some positive differences. Theres a very good bus service round the town now, and that means that
Grandad can visit us easily. He also says that the library and the hospital are a lot better than they used to be, and he was pleased
when the town got recycling bins a few years ago.
