Good morning Band. I hope you are all doing great today. Today we will be working on Pirates of the Caribbean

be beginning by doing a few scales to warm up and will be moving forward into the repertoire from there.
Expectations for Learning and Behaviour: Students are expected to listen when the teacher is speaking. Play their
instruments to the best of their abilities and come ready to work while having fun!
Advance Organizer/Agenda: Warm-up (#88 Standard of Excellence) we will be using dynamics and proper
articulations for this scale. Pirates of the Caribbean.
Transition to Body: Lets make sure to remember to use the dynamics and articulations we talked about in the
warm up!

Learning Activity #1: Warm up: Before each piece of music I intend on talking about rest position/playing position to
help enforce good habits. Warm-up (#88 Standard of Excellence) we will be using dynamics and proper articulations
for this scale while ensuring that our pitches are accurate. We will be looking at the Ab Major scale in detail as an
introduction to the Db note in a deeper matter. This will aid with the new key signature of pirates of the Caribbean. We
will begin doing this note by note with myself playing as well and then move into half notes with the scale. We will
also be looking at exercise number 124 which focuses on the dotted quarter note pattern we find in our new piece of
music. After we get it well in half noes we will move to the written format. During this time I will be waiting as much
as I need to in between instructions to ensure that I have the attention from the entirety of the class. (8 Mins)
Assessments/Differentiation: Formative assessment will be given verbally on how well they achieved the task.

Learning Activity #3: March of the Kangaroos: We will be doing a review of this piece with a focus on creating the
correct articulations as suggested by the adjudicators at band festival. This will be more of a run through than a
rehearsal piece just to keep the students familiar with the music. Students will attempt to do this with their stands
facing away from them to see how well they remember their piece of music.
Assessments/Differentiation: Formative assessment will be given verbally on how well they achieved the task.
Learning Activity #3: Pirates of the Caribbean: This piece will be continues to be sight read. We will work section by
section, calling rehearsal numbers as we approach them. Students will be asked who all made it to the next section and
stopped at the right spot. This will create a healthy and fun competitive nature to the piece which will help the students
gain focus while we are working on a new piece of music. During this part of the lesson I will be waiting for students
complete attention as well. We will be working on specific rhythms which may be giving students trouble using the
Tee-Tee, Ta, and Too concept of rhythm between this and clapping to internalize the rhythm students will be able learn
the parts effectively. We will also be taking any new notes that may be giving sections trouble out of context to ensure
that the students have the proper fingerings and positioning to achieve the note to the best of their abilities.
Assessments/Differentiation: Formative assessment will be given verbally on how well they achieved the task.

Closure ( 5 min.):
Consolidation/Assessment of Learning: The teacher will listen and provide feedback throughout the lesson to sections
and the whole band.
Feedback From Students: AS assessments will be used in the way that the students will be asked what they feel
could be improved on in the different pieces.
Feedback To Students: Positive feedback and suggestions for improvement will be given throughout the lesson for
students verbally.
