Lesson Plan Project

Lesson Goals or Learning Targets (Word these as measurable student outcomes.)

By the end of the period, students will have successfully learned the new chords that go
with our new song, Silent Night and will have started learning Mele Kalikimaka.

Lesson Objectives or Success Criteria (Word these as student actions, use verbs.)

Students will be able to go through chords, rhythms, and play our two new songs
successfully

Lesson Plan Content (Written narrative paragraph about the lesson content.)

When class first starts, I will pass out the tuners to everyone and give out ukuleles to the
people who don’t have theirs that day. After everyone is tuned, I will lead them in our warm
up, which is the pentatonic scale in half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, then our chords.
After we go through the chords we already know, I will pass out the Silent Night sheet music
and teach our new chords, Am7, G7 inv.1 and G7 inv. 2. After they learn those we will play
the song two or three times before we move on to ukulele underground’s YouTube tutorial
for Mele Kalikimaka. The video should take a while, so with the short amount of left over
time we have in class, we will use that to have some individual practice before class is
dismissed.

CSTP Rationale (Describe how California Standards for the Teaching Profession will be observable during the teaching of this lesson
plan.)
CSTP 1: Engaging all CSTP 1 will be visible in my lesson because I will use additional
students in learning. instructional practices such as helping a couple student who are
struggling with strumming on time or how to finger our new chords.
I will help them face to face and show them how they are
supposed to be holding their instrument.

CSTP 2: Maintaining Maintaining a positive learning environment is important because

effective learning when a student struggles to play their instrument, they are likely to
environment. feel intimidated by others and that they can’t do it. When I see that
a student is struggling, I will go up to them and personally help
them out and be there for them when they feel like they aren’t
good enough.

CSTP 3: Organizing I will demonstrate my knowledge of the material I am teaching by

CSTP 4: Planning During my lesson, I will be handing out sheet music of silent night,
instruction experiences which counts as the curriculum for that day.
for all students.

CSTP 5: Assessing When I’m teaching, there isn’t really a way that I can assess the
student learning. students, but the closest I can do is speeding up the class by
making the metronome faster.

CSTP 6: Developing as If I ever need help at some point I can ask Mrs. Carreon if what I’m
an educator. doing is okay. She can give me feedback so I can reflect and
improve my teaching practices.

Instructional Procedures

● Focusing Event (Describe how you will get students to focus attention on your teaching.)

I will get the classes focus by telling them we are going to moving on. Luckily this
particular class will listen to you when you are trying to say something

● Instructional Strategies (Describe all instructional methods you will employ during the lesson.)

The instructional strategy that I will be using will be direct instruction. I will be using
this because I will be standing in front of the whole class teaching them what to do.

● Student Participation (How will you engage students and get them on board to participate?)

I will get students on board and ready to learn by telling them they will be learning
two Christmas songs today. Everybody loves Christmas so who wouldn’t be excited.
● Formative Check (How will you check that all students are involved and engaged in the lesson?

I will engage all students by walking around, checking for the correct fingerings and
monitoring the class while we play.

● Closure (How will you end the lesson purposefully, with intentionality?)

I will end the lesson with a tutorial video and once that is finished the
students will be allowed practice time before the bell rings.

● Assessment (How will you assess that students achieved the lesson goals or learning targets?)

I will assess them by having us play silent night one more time before class ends.

Lesson Plan Materials (Include everything needed to successfully complete the lesson with the full class. Remember to
include all supplies, as well as technology, whiteboard space, classroom space, etc.)

All of the materials we will need for this lesson are tuners, ukuleles, sheet music, a tv for the
tutorial, and your ears!
