Synopsis

RAFIKI gathers the ANIMALS of the Pridelands to welcome the newborn cub
of King MUFASA and Queen SARABI (Circle of Life with Nants
Ingonyama). The kings jealous brother SCAR, no longer heir to the throne,
skips the ceremony, upsetting Mufasa. Time passes (Grasslands Chant) and
YOUNG SIMBA grows into a curious young lion. Mufasa explains the circle
of life and that Young Simba will one day be king of the Pridelands. Young
Simba shares this news with Scar, who encourages his nephew to visit the
forbidden Elephant Graveyard. Young Simba finds his best friend YOUNG
NALA hunting with SARAFINA and the LIONESSES (The Lioness Hunt)
and invites her on his adventure. Once they ditch their overbearing babysitter
ZAZU (I Just Cant Wait to Be King), the cubs encounter the ravenous
SHENZI, BANZAI, and ED in the graveyard. Mufasa arrives and pummels the
hyenas, then takes the cubs home. Scar emerges from the darkness to recruit the
HYENAS in his murderous plan to become king (Be Prepared). Back in the
Pridelands, Mufasa reprimands Young Simba then shares the guidance of their
ancestors, up among the stars (They Live in You).
Enacting his plan, Scar leaves Young Simba alone in the gorge and signals the
hyenas to scare a herd of wildebeest (The Stampede). Scar alerts Mufasa, who
leaps into the stampede to save his son. Mufasa rescues Young Simba, but Scar
pushes his brother back into the gorge, where he is trampled. Scar blames
Young Simba for the kings death and tells him to run away and never return.
As Sarabi, Young Nala, Rafiki, and the lioness mourn the loss of Mufasa and
Young Simba (The Mourning), Scar assumes the throne, uniting lions and
hyenas under his dark reign. Lost in the desert, Young Simba meets TIMON
and PUMBAA, who take him to their worry-free jungle home (Hakuna
Matata).
Under Scars reign, the Pridelands are nearly destroyed. Now grown, NALA
decides to leave and seek help (Shadowland). To her delight, she finds SIMBA
alive in the jungle (Can You Feel the Love Tonight). Nala urges him to take his
rightful place asking, but still ashamed, Simba refuses. Rafiki appears and helps
Simba remember his father (He lives in You). With newfound courage, Simba
agrees to return to the Pridelands. Timon and Pumbaa distract the hyenas (Luau
Hawaiian Treat) while Nala rallies the lionesses. Simba confronts his uncle,
the truth of Mufasas murder is revealed, and Scar runs away, pursued by angry
hyenas. With peace restored in the Pridelands, Simba takes his place as king
and the circle of life continues (Finale).

Characters in The Lion King


Simba
Simba, the prince of the Pride Lands and son of King Mufasa and Queen
Sarabi, grows into a fairly wild and carefree adult after living a
rambunctious and arrogant cubhood. All of that changes when he meets
Rafiki. Simba begins to realize his responsibilities and returns home to
challenge his evil uncle Scar for the kingship of the Pride Lands.
Nala
Nala, daughter of Sarafina and mate of Simba, was just as wild of a cub as
Simba was. She would often accompany him on many adventures. When
Simba is exiled, Nala grows up thinking that he is dead. When the two
meet, they find out that their cubhood bonds turn into something more.
They fall in love and together they retake the Pride Lands.
Mufasa
Mufasa is the king of the Pride Lands, brother of Scar, mate of Sarabi and
father of Simba. He is portrayed as a very proud, majestic and
knowledgeable king. Although his time in the film is short, he teaches
Simba important lessons and prepares his son for being king some day.
Sarabi
Sarabi is the loving mother of Simba and mate of Mufasa. After Mufasa's
death, she plays the role of a headstrong individual and stands her ground
against the tyranny of Scar.
Sarafina
Sarafina is Nala's mother and Sarabi's great friend, who only has one line
in the movie.
Scar
Scar is Mufasa's brother and Simba's uncle. Scar becomes so jealous and
frustrated with his brother, that he is willing to do anything to gain control
of the Pride Lands and become kingincluding killing the king.

Rafiki
Rafiki is the wise old baboon of the Pridelanders. A friend to the royal
family, Rafiki often manages almost shamanistic duties such as
presentation and anointing of royal cubs.
Timon
Timon is the motor mouth friend of Simba & Pumbaa. The three live with
no worries as Simba grows into an adult.
Pumbaa
Pumbaa is good spirited and a great friend of Timon & Simba.

Zazu
Zazu is the king's majordomo. He helps the king by performing duties
such as announcing the "Morning Report", which is a report of the
happenings around the Pride Lands.
The Hyenas
The three hyenas are Scar's minions. They help him take over the Pride
Lands.
