Smarter Lunchroom Movement is moving through Tulare County!

Here, here, lets give a cheer to Food Service Directors! University of California Cooperative Extension,
UCCE has teamed up with several Food Service Directors all over Tulare County to assist and support School
Food Service Staff in the Smarter Lunchroom Movement. The Smarter Lunchroom Movement or SLM was
created by the B.E.N. Center at Cornell University. The Smarter Lunchroom Movement uses low to no cost
ways to revamp school lunchrooms and cafeterias to promote and support students making healthy food
choices. Several of Tulare Countys Food Service Directors have already adopted the Smarter Lunchroom
Movement in their cafeterias. Theyve even taken it a step further and have incorporated school gardens,
student nutrition advisory teams, applied and received lunchroom grants, and incorporated nutrition education
into their lunchrooms and schools with the help of the UCCE Nutrition Educators! UCCE is currently working
with Food Service Directors in Woodlake, Tulare, Farmersville, and Earlimart. Ask your students today if
theyve chosen a smarter and healthier lunch!
