Valance Shell Electron Pair Repulsion (VSEPR) theory is a set of rule that we can use

to look at 2-D lewis structure of molecule. From the video that I learn, he mention 3
main type of lewis structure. which are linear shape, trigonal planar, and tetrahedral
shape
1. LINEAR SHAPE ( 2 things around the central atom)
Example of this shape is BeCl2 . the angle between the bond is 180 degree. Next
example Is CO2. Even though it has double bond it still said a linear structure. Same
goes as HCN which has triple bond it still count as linear shape.
2. TRIGONAL PLANAR ( 3 things around the central atom)
The angle between the bond is 120 degree.
Same as linear shape, the double bond and triple bond is not matters at all.
But it will become the bend shape if:

It have a unpaired electron

The angle will less than 120 degree
Because unshared electron will push the atom
Example, SO2

3. TETRAHEDRAL ( 4 things around the central atom)

The angle between the bon is 109.5 degree. There is another types of shape under
tetrahedral which are:

Trigonal pyramidal , example is the NH3. The one atom was replaced by one
unshared electron. It angle will be less than 109.5 degree, which is among
the 107 degree because the repulsion.
Bent shape, example is H2O. the angle is about 105 degree because of the
great repulsion of the unshared electron.
Hence, more unshared electron , more greater the repulsion to the
atom by that unshared electron.
