The Elevator
The thing that makes the The Elevator suspenseful is, the words that the narrator uses
to describe how he felt and the things that the lady does on the elevator everyday. Some details
about how the first idea makes the story suspenseful is the way he talks about how he felt with
the fat lady on the elevator in the story the narrator says, she quickly turned and watched him
as the door slammed shut.(pg.34) Which builds suspense because you dont know why she
turned and watched him it makes you wonder like, does she want to know which apartment he
lives in? Another detail that shows suspense is at the end of the book when it says the door
sealed them in; the elevator started up.Hello, Martin, he said, and laughed, and pushed the
stop button. (pg.35)Which builds up a lot of suspense because you dont know what she going
to do to him because the author leaves you hanging. My last detail about how the story is
suspenseful is when the narrator says What if it got stuck between floors? What if it fell? They
were on five now.(pg.33) Which to me build up suspense because hes talking about the
elevator ride they whole way up and the part where he says they were on five now is building
up suspense because it's like hes dreading going on the elevator the whole time. This is how
suspense is built up in The Elevator.
