1) Speakers are identified as MS. PATEL, MR. BERKE, THE COURT.

If you don't know


who's speaking, use UNIDENTIFIED SPEAKER.
2) VERBATIM TRANSCRIPTION, which means every word out the speakers' mouths. But
don't type ums and ahs. Do not type people whispering or privite discussion not
directed to the court for everyone to hear, such as side discussions.
3) No time stamps. No tags such as [Whispering], [Sighs] etc. Only allowable tag
is for [Inaudible]. Capital I for [Inaudible] ONLY at the beginning of sentence
s.
4) Names of cases that are referred to during the trial should be underlined.
5) When a speaker is interrupted, put ( -- ) after the end of the part that gets
cut off, and put ( -- ) before the beginning of the continuation of his stateme
nt if he goes on with the statement after being interrupted.
6) False starts use ( -- ). For example: I was walk -- I was walking over there.
7) If a speaker trails off, use ( -- ) and not (...). For example:
MS. PATEL: Where are-MR. BERKE: Right here!
8) Use two spaces after periods and colons.
9) Use 12 font, New Times Roman, 1.5 spacing, 1 inch margins to the left, right,
top and bottom.
10) In the header put file name, transcribed by Capital Typing, Inc, and current
date.
