RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
Give a brief description of the technology/resource.
Jing is a downloadable software used for screencasting. This program allows the user to take screenshots
of the computer screen and highlight, draw, or annotate on the image. Also, JING enables the user to
record their computer screen. Audio can also be recorded simultaneously with the video. A student could
easily do this at home with some headphones that are attached to a speaker.

INTEGRATION/IMPLEMENTATION IDEA - SCREENCASTING

How might you use this resource to promote student learning? Describe who will be doing the
screencasting you or your students, and what purpose it will serve.

I could do the screencasting as the instructor. If I were to assign a new project to the kids using new
technology, I could use JING to explain how to use it to save class time. I would upload the video on our
class page and this also allows students to rewatch the video in case they had missed a particular detail
or needed to see it visually again. I could also use JING to create weekly recaps of the week and post
them every Friday. I could have different online materials in the video to reinforce the concepts and
major points of the lessons. I think this would also benefit students that may have been absent during
the week. It will not replace the lesson however.

Value-Added Rating Scale

3

The integration idea described:

aligns to content standards
transforms a lesson in a way that
would be impossible or very
difficult without it; very likely to
increase student engagement and
contribute to mastery of the
concept(s)
optimal in a student-centered
environment where students are
active and engaged in learning
content

The integration idea

described:
aligns to content standards
enhances a lesson; likely to
increase student
engagement and support
mastery of the concept(s)
will most likely be used by
the students directly

The integration idea described:

aligns to content standards
serves as a nice supplement to
a lesson but wouldnt necessarily
play a critical role within the
lesson
will most likely be used by the
teacher during a lesson (e.g., a
demonstration)

VALUE-ADDED EXPLANATION

Given the information above, how would the technology integration you described, using the
selected resource? (On the Value-Added Rating Scale above)
Explain your rating based on the indicators on the rubric.

Rating: 2
I gave this a two based on how I was planning on using the tool. Jing could be a 3 if my classroom was an
online class or I had the students in a flip learning environment and the entire lesson was to be watched
at home. However, since I am using to only support the mastery of concepts and the software aligns to
content standards, it is a 2.
