Abstract
Caffeine is a chemical found in coffee, tea, cola, and other products. It is most
commonly used to improve mental alertness, but it has many other uses. In this paper, a
study of the effect of caffeine on academic performance, particularly in exams used
eighteen students from College of Science who each underwent drinking of the
beverages. Nine of the students were randomly selected to consume coffee beverage.
The other nine consumed energy drink. Both populations used the same brand for
uniformity. During each intake results in stimulation of the central nervous system,
heart, muscles, and the centers that control blood pressure, it can also raise blood
pressure, but might not have this effect in people who use it all the time. The question of
interest to the experimenter was whether on average, ingredients found in energy drinks
and coffee in addition to caffeine has significant effects on performance with reference
to the students exam results. The two populations being compared are students who
have taken coffee and students who have taken energy drink. Based on the data
gathered, coffee is more effective in students performances.
