I attended The Scoop social event on Sunday, August 28.

It was located on North

Carolina A&Ts campus in the New Academic Classroom Building Auditorium. This social
event gave the incoming class of 2020 a chance to get introduced to the academic support we
have here on campus. We were also able to meet our personal academic advisors. During our
break-off sessions, we were directed to classrooms where we would meet our individual
academic advisor. After, the meeting we were able to receive a scoop of ice cream from Ben and
Jerrys.
My academic advisor is Ms. Renisha Howard. Ms. Howard is going to be my academic
coach since I have already declared a major. Her main purpose is to make sure I succeed in all
my classes and taking the right classes in order for me to graduate in four years. On my part, I
need to make sure that I am successful in all that I do. I liked how we, the students, were not
sitting in the classroom hearing Ms. Howard speak about what her job is the whole time. Instead,
we were given the opportunity to mingle with our peers. I met peers with some similarities as me
while playing the game. This event as a whole gave me a chance to network with some of my
peers as well as faculty and staff here at NCAT.
I really enjoyed the event because I received helpful information on where I can go if I
ever need any help with anything regarding my education. Meeting my academic advisor gave
me a chance to match the name with a face. After this social event, I now know who to contact
regarding any questions or concerns I may have about my academics. After attending this event,
I have no excuse to give when I am struggling in any of my classes. My academic advisor is
available via email and in-office by appointments. I have already reached out to her since the
social event with questions and concerns. I am extremely grateful that I have someone to support
me academically and ensure that I am being successful.
