We propose to research on Automated Parking System on whether it can be a solution

for Malaysias critical parking space issue. Our main objectives are to determine the
feasibility of the system relatively to the area being used in traditional parking and to
identify each types of system available and their advantages and application side.

1.2

Background

Malaysia has the third highest rate of car ownership in the world. This in return causes
many problems for car owners to find parking spaces. Parking space deficiency can be
easily noted in urban and tertiary education areas. Furthermore, due to lack of parking
spaces many other problems surfaced and caused great problems for both car owners
and the traffic officers. Example of such problems are double to triple parking, being
late for class and work due to having to spend long time in getting a spot to place their
vehicle. All these issue may lead to more stress in fellow Malaysian and reduces
efficiency of working.

1.3

Scope

Our research project will focus primarily on the types, differences, advantages, area
specifications and suitability of each type for different locations with traditional
parking taken into consideration. Other aspects such as the disadvantages, material
used for construction, production, manufacturing process, cost and marketing of the
APS will not be covered in this project.

Discussion

2.1

Approach

Our proposed report will begin a brief review on the types of APS,
differences and advantage of each APS. This report will then discuss about
the area specification between APS and traditional parking. In order to
enhance APS feasibility to be used as a solution to parking problems, few
literature review and article will be used as reference to support APS as a
feasible approach.
According to the statistician who already make the statistical analysis in
Malaysia related to the car registration has increased dramatically from
77655 cars in July to 99589 cars in August. The Road Transport
Department Malaysia reported the Car Registration that averaged of car
register was 65686.95 from 1988 until now and the car register has
reached the highest in March which is 138727 and the lowest in May of
1988 which is 9732.
Based on the problem above, the team of members had disccussed on
how to solve the lack of parking space in Urban and tertiary education
areas. The project is primarily enphasize on the differences, advantages,
area specifications and suitability of each type for different locations with
traditional parking taken into consideration. Other aspects such as the
disadvantages, material used for construction, production, manufacturing
process, cost and marketing of the APS will not be covered in this project.
The comparison graph on whether agree or disagree to have what type of
APS at that area is generalize by giving out survey form to different type
area of people. After the survey is done, a statistical graph will be
generalize to compare each type of Automated Car Parking system are
feasible or not feasible to use at that specific type of place.
2.2

Result

The proposed report will provide technical information of the area used by
the types of APS and effects of APS to help car owners.
