On page twenty-eight of the Perennially Popular, Jack Zipes states that the wandering
protagonist always leaves home to reconstitute home: (there is also an adage that says you can
never return home.) | think I can relate to Jack Zipes and the statement published-in-the_
moving away from home and entering “the wide world” ...a place filled with danger,
hildren become adults in these tales by
challenges,
and exciting adventures” (Pauline Dewan). Well, what is home? I would say home is where the
heart is, but that is not the case for everyone. Home is a word that is often used but it holds
exclusive meaning. To some home is where they first learned to walk and talk, learned how to:
ride their first bike, or leamed to climb the tree and gained the first scratch on their knees. Home
for me was always a solid base, just as the role of home base in the game of baseball. No matter
how long my days were and no matter how far away out of town I would go, once I made it back
home it was peacefully refreshing. It never mattered how good or bad of a day I could’ve had,

because returning home to my family was a part of the game (my life). I knew my mother and
siblings would be home too, and I could always talk to my family about my day at the ballpark;
whether I hit a homerun or bunted the pitch that day. I relied on my home as a base for the end of
every day, and this allowed me to recuperate at the end of my days until the next. For me, having
home serve as a base helped me develop an even kilt toward experiences and many different
feelings.
