K ROWLING
POWERPOINT IN-CLASS EXERCISE
Jacquelin De La Torre

Joanne Kathleen Rowling is born on July 31st, 1965 in Yate, England. She attended Wyedean
Comprehensive School in Chepstow, England from 1976 to 1982 then later studied French at the
University of Exeter (B.A., 1987). After studying in Paris, Rowling went on to work for Amnesty
International in London.
Known as J.K. in include her grandmother, Kathleen for the latter initial. In other words, Rowling
does not have a middle name.
In 1999, Rowling became an international literary sensation after the first 3 Harry Potter series
were announced New York Times best-seller list.
What influenced her to write?
When Rowling was traveling on a train in London, she began to imagine her first book Harry Potter
and the Philosopher Stone. Rowling states, Harry just strolled into my head fully formed.

AUTHORS BACKGROUND
INTERESTS
When it comes to children watching
television and reading, she feels that
it should be a Very balance
approach. T.V shouldnt be banned,
but reading should also be part of a
childs daily life.
She has been starstruck about
meeting Barack H. Obama and
another man who knew Bobby
Kennedy and a speech writer for
Teddy Roosevelt.
J.K. Rowling enjoys a physical book
than an online reading (kindle) but it
is also good for traveling.

She prefers being herself when shes

seen in public instead of acting as if
shes happy in front of cameras.

Her life was compared to Harry

Potters story.

She relies on herself when shes

stressed in her writing instead of
others.

At age 9, Rowling and her family

moved to a village outside Chester
on the edge of the forest in Dean,
where all the magical creatures and
imagination came to her mind.

When it comes to her final Harry

Potter Series, love is the most powerful
thing.

She lived in a suburban street.

Harry Potter has idealized fathersHagrid, Dumbledore, and Sirius- when

her own father was far from ideal.
Absent relationship of her deceased
mother and father were the
important influences in Rowlings
writing.

Harry Potter is J.K Rowlings Conscious. Instead of

writing a true story about her life, Rowling decided to
explain it in a creative way. She decided to put her
story- from her poor relationship with her parents to her
train travel and living- into a childrens series that consist
of magical creatures and excitement in not only every
page, but later turned into a film. I may not be as similar
as Rowling, but my life later turned out be as
complicated as hers. For the past couple of years, my
thoughts and actions were kept away from my parents,
which not only led to my pregnancy, but also to the
lack of trust from everyone I loved. Many believed that I
should be more mature and make my own decisions,
but I still live under the rules of my parents. My friends
would judge my family which led to my depression. As I
wrote in a journal that my mom brought to express how
I feel, I only imagine ideas that is similar to my life
instead of releasing the true story. J.K. Rowling had a
way to twist her story, which gave young readers the
opportunity to share their empathy like Harrys.

J.K. Rowling states, Sometimes you have to get your writing done in spare
moments here and there. In other words, every writer has to write
somewhere, and that somewhere includes a full-time work.

As J.K. Rowling quotes, What you write becomes who you are so make
sure you love what you write! Write with passion! Just like how she continued
with her Harry Potter series!
