WEBSITE AND CLASSROOM BLOG CREATION TOOLS

Name: Sarah Jo Greer

Directions: Using the template below, describe how students could use a blog, wiki, or other websitecreation tool to learn required learning standards in your content area: For an A grade provide an idea that
reaches a Level of Technology Implementation of 4 or above. Remember higher levels (4-6) require that
students assume adult/professional roles; engage in higher-order thinking; and use technology
create/publish original content for their classmates and/or others beyond their school/classroom. The
learning activities and products should be engaging and meaningful to the students and to others who will
view/use/benefit from students work. Review your handouts on Engaged Learning, Authenticity, and LoTi.

Website Creation Tool (list):
Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed: S3L2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate
information about the effects of pollution (air, land, and water) and humans on the environment.
Brief Description of Learning Experience: What learning standards will be addressed? What will
students and teachers do? What products will students create? How will the project be introduced? How
long will it take to complete? What audience will use/care about the product(s) students are creating? How
broad is this audience? (Overview should be approximately 1-2 paragraphs).
Students will be given the task of reflecting on the idea of pollution. How it harms the Earth, the
different ways it harms the Earth. They will be asked to think about the different ways the Earth can be
harmed and in what ways we as humans living on the Earth can help prevent it from continuing to be
harmed.
The students will be sent to the class blog to listen to the Flipped Classroom assignment to give them
this pollution task over the course of the weekend before returning to school Monday. The blog post will
also come with an informative video to watch on what happens to the Earth to help give them an idea of
what pollution is. Students will create ideas of how they can help the Earth be less polluted, and the entire
community of the school could benefit from the students ideas if they are put into play.

Student Engagement/Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): What LoTi would this lesson be and
Why? LoTi 3 is implemented through their access to technology, not only through the podcast but through
the video provided to help them become more informed learners.
Importance of technology: Why is using a website-creation tool critical to the project? Could the project
be completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other types of
technology, if any, are going to be used in the learning experience?
This assignment would not be possible if it were not for technology. They have access to the technological
podcast because of their computers or tablets at home. The video provided on pollution also requires
technology. While this could be explained at school, the students can refer to the video throughout the
weekend as needed thanks to their access of technology.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding Internet safety and
student privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain how you would
(1) minimize risks to students/yourself; (2) alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and (3) follow
common Internet Safety/Acceptable Use Policies.
It is very important that students information stays safe and sound when it comes to the web. There are
many ways to protect them, but the present actions that can be made include not using their names in the
podcast. This as well as not using their pictures or names on the blog itself. If a teacher would like to
incorporate the students work or pictures, they must first make sure it is compatible and compliant with the
districts restrictions of Internet Safety Policies. There is no need for the teacher to share what city the
school is in or the name of the school.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. What are you trying that you have not tried
before? What do you hope to learn from this activity? How do you hope it will help students learn? I am
interested and happy to learn how to teach a lesson through a short minute long recording. It is very eye
opening to see all of the different outlets that can be taken to get a message across to students. It doesnt
just have to be in the front of the classroom, or in a letter home! There are so many different ways to reach
out to the students.
