Introduction
The Geo7x was used to acquire a static position (no feature) set of data and a static position
(point feature) set of data. The first set of data logs one position every second that is plotted on a
map later. It has no feature points, but it has several position points based on the amount of time
it had to collect data. The second set of data is collected for a certain time interval and creates a
feature point. All data is transferred to a desktop computer. The Geo7x must receive at least four
satellites to function properly.
Procedure
At the Forest Ecology Preserve, groups collected data from several benchmarks using the
Geo7x. For the first set of data, settings for Zero Feature data were inputted into the GPS
configurations. Logging Interval was set to one second, and the GPS logged data for ten minutes.
There had to be zero features and greater than four hundred positions.
For the second set of data, the zero feature setting was turned off. The receiver logged data for
30 seconds and had a feature greater than fifteen but less than forty five positions. It then logged
seven minutes with greater than three hundred positions and fifteen minutes with greater than
seven hundred positions. Each set of data produced an uncorrected and corrected file. The third
set of data, Open Sky, was provided. The differential correction was used to obtain the corrected
files.

The Geo7x was plugged into a computer in order to download the data to Pathfinder Office.
The Data Correction tool was used to correct data that required correcting. Data was collected
and maps were created within the software with the proper benchmarks.

The forest canopy had an effect on the collection of the data according to the maps and tables.
The thirty second data was more accurate in open sky than the forest canopy. The closest
distance to the benchmark for the forest canopy with corrected data was 1.987m at fifteen
minutes and 0.542mat fifteen minutes for open sky. For the uncorrected data, the closest distance
was 1.324m at seven minutes for the forest canopy and 1.521m at fifteen minutes for open sky.
The forest canopy has a notable effect on the accuracy of the feature points. Time taken to collect
data also had an effect. With exception to the seven minute uncorrected forest canopy data, the
fifteen minute feature point was found to be the most accurate point.
