Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing this in response to the job posting for a laboratory technician from the Indeed job
database. I have recently graduated this past spring from the University of South Florida
Sarasota-Manatee with a bachelors degree in Biology. Horticulture and botany are both interests
of mine that I am eager to combine with my Biology degree in a practical research setting.
The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee places a large focus on preparing its Biology
students for research. As such, I have notable amounts of experience with laboratory research
and field work. Of particular note are the chemistry labs which allow for a certain amount of
exploratory practices where the particular details of some experiments are determined in
discussions between the professors and the students rather than directly outlined. Specific
laboratory education and experience is outlined in my attached resume.
Further, I have experience with gathering, sorting, and analyzing large amounts of data. While it
focused on an economics topic, my presentation Factors of Unemployment utilized many core
skills important for any variety of data analysis.
Additionally, horticulture has been a consistent interest of mine. On top of always tending my
own personal garden, I participated in the development of a medicinal garden at the Florida
House. The aim of this garden was that it should include plants with medicinal properties, would
grow appropriately well together, were non-invasive, and would function as part of the
sustaining system that the Florida House employed in their gardens. The medicinal garden itself
is displayed in a prominent location on one side of the House. With a combination of my
horticulture experience and my education in biology,
I look forward to hearing from you in the near future. I am most easily reachable by email at
alexanderm2@mail.usf.edu or by phone at (941) 924-2042. I will reach out to contact you again
in approximately two weeks to check if there is any further information or clarifications
regarding my application or qualifications that you may require. Thank you for your
consideration.

Sincerely,

Alexander McClure
