Lesson Activities & Procedure(s) (please be very specific):

1. When the students get to class they will look at and study
the collage Nicolas by Patrick Bremer.
2. The students will then VTS the collage with the teacher
leading. Questions that will be asked are what do you notice?
Can you tell me more about that? As well as restating what
the child says.
3. Students will remain on the carpet to listen to the story
Mouse Shapes by Ellen Walsh.
4. Will pick out two shapes rectangles and circles to talk
about and describe the properties.
5. The students will be working in their table groups. They
will either be given a rectangle or a circle piece of paper that
is to tell them to either look for a circle or a rectangle in their
magazines.
6. When they find a circle or rectangle they will cut it out and
glue it onto their shape paper.
7. After they finish they will present their collages to the class

and say how they knew it was a rectangle or a circle.

Anticipatory Set (Gaining Attention)*:

Closure (Reflecting Anticipatory Set):

The students will be thinking and sharing their opinions. They

will stay engaged because they will continuously be thinking,
talking, or making something.

Students will share their collages at the end of the lesson.

This will show their peers what they found and what they
have learned.

Formative Assessment strategy:

Summative Assessment strategy*:

This will take place during multiple areas of the lesson. I will
take anecdotal notes on what the students are saying during
the VTS, about the different shapes, and while they make their
collage.

I will compare the students work to a rubric that I have made.

I will share the rubric with the students. The rubric will outline
what I want the students to do in both words and pictures.
The picture example will be using a different shape other
than the ones I am giving them to do.

What student prior knowledge will this lesson require/draw upon?

Most students have seen shapes before, so being able to name the shapes. Some of the students will have also looked at the
book Mouse Shapes because it is in the classroom library.
How will you engage students in imagining, exploring, and/or experimenting in this lesson?
I will have the students explore magazines while searching for shapes. They enjoy looking through magazines especially ones
that are about their interests. Having them explore the magazines will help them realize that there are shapes everywhere.
How will this lesson allow for/encourage students to solve problems in divergent ways?

This will allow students to solve problems by communicating and working with their peers.
How will you engage students in routinely reflecting on their learning?
I will have the students routinely reflecting by having them talking about their work with me and their peers.
How will you adapt the various aspects of the lesson to differently-abeled students?

What opportunities/activities will students be given to revise and improve their understandings and their work?
The students will do this activity multiple times to see their improvements will their cutting and recognition
What opportunities/activities will you provide for students to share their learning in this lesson?
At the end of the lesson the students will able to get up and show their collages to the class. They will be able to share how
they find their shapes and what they looked for.
