Right - Every Canadian should be able to vote because they have a chance to pick their
own leader.
2. All people are to be treated equally and fairly.
Right - People should be treated equally and fairly because it is just the right thing to do.
Many people are discriminated because of their race, gender, religion, and many other
things.
3. All Canadians can apply for a Canadian passport
Right - All Canadians have a right to be able to represent themselves abe be able to
travel out of the country with a passport.
4. Any Canadian citizen can run as a candidate in any local, provincial or federal
election
Right - Any Canadian citizen is allowed to run as a candidate, but it is not a
responsibility.
5. Canadian laws should be obeyed by all citizens
Responsibility - The law should be obeyed by everyone, as it protects people from
danger, and prevents people from hurting others.
6. Canadian citizens should help groups to keep our environment clean and safe
Responsibility - It is up to the citizens of Canada to keep the place they live in clean and
safe, as Canada would not be a safe country if the citizens did not help.
7. A Canadian citizen can learn in French or English
Right - Canadian citizens should be able to learn in a language that they are
comfortable with, and understand. Learning is necessary for survival, and it will help
people further in life. Also, English and French are Canadas national languages.

8. Good citizens are willing to lend a helping hand to neighbour in need


Responsibility - Citizens have a choice whether they want to help their neighbours, as it
is up to them if they want to.
9. Old buildings and artefacts should be preserved or restored to keep our history
alive
Responsibility - It is up to the government to make a decision on the preservation of
Canadian history. They do not have to, but preserving Canadian history is also
preserving our culture, and what we did to contribute to the world in the past.
10. Canadian citizens can leave and enter Canada whenever they want
Right - It is a right for Canadian citizens to leave and enter Canada if they want,
because you can not restrict people to stay in one place. If you did, then the health of
the country would not be good.
11. Canadians are able to speak freely about issues and problems
Right - Speaking freely about issues and problems is a right, because the citizens can
speak up about things they do not like or are comfortable with, and the government can
listen and respond.
12. Mary went to the principals of her school to report the vandalism done to the
school building by five of her classmates.
Responsibility - It is up to Mary to report the act of vandalism done by her classmates.
They did something wrong, and she saw what took place. Since she told the principals,
they can deal with the classmates and prevent further damage to property.
13. Mr. and Mrs. Samra went to the polling station to vote for the new mayor of
Kingston
Right - Citizens of a city have a right to vote for who they want the mayor to be.
