Letter of Self-Introduction

My name is Han Zheng and Im a senior student from China whose major is
English Education. Ever since I was a child, I have liked to watch English
movies,cartons and listened to English songs. That is part of the reason why my
pronunciation is better than my classmates back then. When my high school teacher
fund out my good pronunciation, she made me her class represent and gave me more
chances to read in class. Her pride not only encouraged me to become more and more
interest in learning English but also made me realize that I want to be an English
teacher in the future. I want to become a teacher that can help students transfer their
extrinsic motivation into intrinsic motivation and make them enjoy learning English.
But even though I respect my high school English teacher, I hold a different opinion
about the teaching strategy she used. Personally, my speaking skill is better than my
writing skill. But normally test-taking is the strong point to most Chinese student. It is
because Chinese teachers prefer to use grammar translation method as the main
method in teaching English. Therefore, in high school students have tons of
mechanical drills and text papers to finish but they rarely get the chance to really use
what they have learned in class. The language is nothing but a subject on the textbook.
I witnessed so many of my classmates who did well in tests but couldnt express
themselves well in front of foreigners in high school. That is the reason why I want to
be an English teacher whose students can use English as a tool to communicate. I
want to combine communicate teaching with grammar translation teaching in my
future career . And I will use more strategies to help students develop their speaking
competence in the future.
