WRITTEN LITERACY REFLECTION

In terms of written literacy, I feel as though Ive

improved slightly than where I was at the start of
this year. I learned about the DOs and DONTs of
Formal Writing which has gone a long way for me
this semester. Im sure it will follow me to English
112 next semester as Ive improved my writing and
reading skills in this English 111 class. The work
that Ive included in this section of the portfolio
includes my This I Believe peer review draft and
final draft and a journal entry about my fears and
or worries on the This I Believe assignment on
the day that it was due. Ive made some key edits
to the final draft of my God is Real This I
Believe proclamation paper. I reviewed the paper
along with a little help from my father, Jermaine
(hes an English major) to make the final draft of
the paper as good as possible. The one thing that
did challenge me, however, was just I guess you
could say, the simple task of just picking
something that I believed in to write about. I think
that it was a struggle for me to pick a belief that I
had because I didnt want to write a boring or
typical paper, and with my belief in God, I had a
story that I could connect that to and incorporate it
into my This I Believe paper. The main reason I
chose to place these pieces in the portfolio is
primarily because in the written literacy section,

we were required to include our This I Believe

papers and one journal entry. When it came to
choosing a journal, I just wanted to pick one that
would show you the process and or what goes on in
my mind with a major assignment. I think the most
important thing I learned from this topic was the
definition of the word literacy and the DOs and
DONTs of Formal Writing because I used to
always use the word I no matter what I was
writing and or doing when it came to English
courses.
