Population Comparisons

You are going to make population profiles for four countries - one in each stage of the
demographic transition. You will create a document briefly profiling each country along with
some general information about the current state of the world population.

Answer these questions:

1) What trends do you see among the top 10 most populated countries in the world?
Only two countries exceed 1 million, both are in Asia. There is a large gap between the
two top countries and the rest.
2) Compare and contrast the Age Structure Pyramids of the different stages of demographic
transition. Describe how you researched to find the different example countries? I search for
examples of countries in each stage. The earlier the stage the more of a pyramid shape the
gender graph has. This means the countries have lots of young that do not survive to old age.
The latest stage has the most people in the middle with generally even spread throughout.
3) What is GDP per capita and what relationship might it have to a countrys population?
Typically the higher the GDP the more developed that country is. Also the higher the
number of people of working age in the country the higher the GDP.
