Aptitude Test Common for all the posts- Verbal ability, Numerical ability, Reasoning and
General Awareness regarding Current National and International Affairs; Problems of
National Development, Economic, Educational, Cultural and Social, International Affairs of
Cultural, Literacy, Artistic, Scientific and Technology interest. Glimpses of world History and
World Geography; Sports and Games, General Terminology.
1. ASSISTANT ENGINEER (CIVIL)- Fundamentals of: Stress -strain and their
relationships, Basic fluid mechanics, Principles of elementary soil mechanics, simple water
and waste water treatment, causes of pollution, principles of surveying. Analysis and design
of R.C. and steel structures- beams, trusses, frames, tanks, retaining walls and footings,
stability of slopes, bearing capacity and settlement analysis, Flow through pipes, open
channels and tunnels; Water Conductor; Hydraulic machinery. Sources of water; Causes of
pollution; Treatment of water and waste; Design of public health systems, Precise Traversing,
Triangulation and its adjustment, Precise Leveling, Setting out of works, Circular, Vertical
and Transition Curves, Photogrammetric mapping, techniques of advanced mapping,
Electronic Distance Measurement, soil Mechanics and foundation engineering, building
construction engineering, etc.
Fundamentals of: Analysis of simple d.c. and a.c. networks, Network theorems; Single-phase
and three phases circuits, Transformers, electrical machines, basic principles of electronics,
amplifiers, oscillators and rectifiers etc.
Fundamentals of: Concept of stress and strain: Elastic deformation of solid materials,
Mechanical properties and testing of engineering materials, basic manufacturing processes,
heat treatment, basic concept of thermodynamics, construction and working of steam boilers,
steam engines, steam turbines and internal combustion engines, Basic Concept of Fluid flow:
Physical laws of conservation of mass, momentum and energy.

2. ASSISTANT ENGINEER (E/M)- Fundamentals of: Analysis of stress and strain:
Theories of elastic failure, Thick cylinders and rotating discs, columns and struts, modes of
heat transfer, conduction, convection and radiation, combustion, Thermodynamic cycles,
Design principles of steam generating systems including steam engines, steam turbines, heat
exchangers etc, performance and characteristics of thermal power systems, utilization of
hydropower, design principles and selection of hydraulic turbines, compressors and pumps
etc.
Fundamentals of: Synchronous induction and continuous current machines, generalized
approach, phase diagram, equivalent circuit, calculation of voltage, speed and torque, electric

power systems, generation, transmission and distribution of electric power, types of


generating stations and their layout, short, medium and long lines, line regulations,
calculation of line parameters, circle diagrams, fault calculations, symmetrical components,
substation, layout and design, protective systems, relays and circuit breakers etc.
