FOCUS OF LESSON: _
STUDENT PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (SPO):
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
P.) Demonstrate proper ways of taking ones pulse at the beginning and end of the activity to determine
what it feels like after exercise. (S3.E3.K, 1, 2b) (MACF 2.4)
C.) Name what cooperation is and at least one way that cooperative skills are important to PE when
working with others. (S3.E2.K,1,2) (MACF 2.6)
A.) Work safely and cooperatively with others when working in groups and with the whole class to avoid
conflict and ensure safety. (S4.E6.K,1,2b.) (S4.E4.K, 1, 2) (MACF 2.7)
Check each objective: Is it specific? Is it achievable? Is it developmentally appropriate?
TEACHER PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES - During the lesson the teacher will:
1. _Give clear and specific directions and demonstrations for each activity rules as well as safety for the
entire class period._______________________________
2. ___Rotate and move around the room to different stations and areas of the gymnasium to assist
students and give feedback to help correct movements if needed.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - What are the safety concerns? What is unique about the students
in this class?
Because students will get tired easily, give them a small break between exercises while you demonstrate
the next activity.
Provide at least 1 minute at the end for students to sit or lay quietly to get their heart rate to normal.
For ELL or special needs students, be sure they can see all demonstrations. Have them mixed with other
students that can work following directions so they have examples and check in with them often.

SEQUENCE OF LESSON

ORGANIZATION

REFLECTIONS

Attendance: Students will enter the gym and sit in

their assigned colored rows. Ms. Morris will take
attendance.
WALT: Students will practice cooperation skills by
using them in different activities through the lesson.
Informing:
- Students will remind Ms. Morris about what
cooperation is and how we will be using it through
the unit.
Safety: Students will need to always look out for
others around them to be sure no collisions occur.
Students will need to follow all activity rules, stay
inside the boundaries and listen to the teachers
directions.
Instant Activity: Students will be taking their pulse
and counting their heat beat for 30 seconds.
Transition: Students will stand quietly in their
personal space listening to directions from Ms.
Morris.
Activity 1 Scoops Relay:
- For the scoops relay, one at a time, students
will run across the gym to a hoop that
contains as many foam balls as there is
people in the group. The students will scoop
up one ball, run back to their group and put
it in another hoop that is near where they
started. The objective of the game is for
each person in the group to scoop their foam
ball, and bring it back to the other hoop
without dropping it.
- This relay will restart a few times with

Scoops are better to

use for throwing
and catching. It was
a good implement
to use but students
only held and ran or
used another
locomotor skill.

Extensions such as adding different

locomotor movements.
Ms. Morris will pause students and will have
students feel their pulse.
Transition: Students will gather around the center
circle.
Activity 2: Alligator Tag:

- 2 people will be taggers.

- Everyone in the class is trying to avoid a tagger
by running, dodging, and fleeing.
- When a student is tagged, they must get into the
alligator position (push-up position) and
hold that position.
- To become unfrozen, another student must get into
the alligator position next to the frozen alligator and
slap their hand.
- Students will be using different cooperation skills
and teamwork to help others get back in, and use
sportsmanship.

Students absolutely
love this activity.
They were able to
use fitness as well
as cooperation
skills without even
know it.

Transition: Ms. Morris will have 2 students help

her set up equipment for the activity.
Activity 3 Hungry Crabs:
- Set Up: There will be bean bags or yarn balls
scattered throughout the general space. In each
corner, there will be one hula hoop.
- Ms. Morris will divide the students into four
groups and place each group at one of the four hula
hoops.
- Ms, Morris will explain to the students that the
area inside the cones is the "ocean" and the bean
bags or yarn balls are "crab food.
- 2 students at a time are going to crab walk inside
the boundaries and collect the bean bags or yarn
balls. They are only allowed to get one at a time.
Once they grab one, they place it on their stomach
and crab walk to their teams hula hoop. They place
the it in the hula hoop and another team mate will
go back to get another one. Each team is trying to
collect the most bean bags either before time runs
out or all the bean bags are gone.
- This activity will help students encourage their

teammates, work together to get more food and

also use math skills to count.
- At the end of this activity, Ms. Morris will ask the
students what muscles they used during this activity.
She will explain some of the muscles of the upper
body that were used and how this activity helps
improve strength and endurance.

FRIDAY:
Activity 1 Fire and Ice:
- If possible, some students will be wearing
pedometers to see how many steps or how far they
travel during this activity.
- Two students have a blue ball (which represent
ice) and two students have a red ball (which
represent fire).
- Everyone else is "free" and can run wherever they
want. The game begins when the music is turned
on.
- The "ice people" try to freeze the "free people" by
tagging them with their blue ball. When a student
gets tagged by an ice person he/she becomes frozen
(standing still with both hands on head).
- The fire people (who cannot be tagged by the ice
people) try to free all of their frozen teammates.
They do this by handing the fireball to a frozen
person. The person receiving the fireball must say
Thank you. If he or she doesnt, they stay frozen
and the fire person then goes to free someone else.
If the person does say thank you they then take
the ball and become a new fire person; the person
who unfroze him or her becomes a "free person".
The fireballs keep getting passed on and on, but the
ice people stay ice people until you stop the music,
which means the game is over.

This activity was

great to use for
cooperation as well
as fitness. At first I
just had the
students freezing
and unfreezing.
Then I extended the
activity by adding
in students having
to say thank you
and passing on the
red ball. Students
didnt get bored of
this activity as they
have in the past.

Transition: Students will gather around the center

circle.
Activity 2 Exercise relay:
- This relay will be set up like a regular relay race
with 4 teams in a line behind their own cone.
- The first person will run down the court to the

exercise and number the teacher announced
(jumping jacks, pushups, Mt. climbers) and then run
to the end of their line so the next person can go.
- Once students go through once, they sit.
Transition: By groups, students will gather around
the center circle.
Turn and Talk:
- Students will turn to someone next to them
and name the 2 exercises used.

and explain what cooperation is.
