1.1 Pre-Stage:
Lets take a look at this photo on pg. 93. Whats going
on there? Is that a robot? What do you think that robot
does?

Transition to #2:
Vocabulary

Lets look at no 1 in our book and discuss with your


partner. What did we discuss? So technology can be
very important to us in our lives right? Or no?
1.2. During Stage:
So some people have a lot of strong opinions about
technology. Just think about whats been happening I
heard a lot of negative and positive opinions going on
here. So lets look at ways we can do that in English.

Lets share some opinions youve written down. Do you

2.1 Pre-Stage: Alright so sometimes when you express


your opinion, someone might agree or disagree with
you as weve seen in class. In English, there are ways
you can agree or disagree with people. For example
(T provides student example on B)

So now were going to look at some ways we can


handle that in English and practice.
2.2. During Stage:
T gives out new handout
S read the instructions. Theres a box here with 12
phrases. You have to really read and pay attention to
what theyre saying so you can put them in the correct
box. First lets review and say all of these phrases out
loud. Work together with your partner to decide which
box.

2.3 Post-Stage:
T writes down on B a copy of the boxes. Okay so lets
check together. Can each group go up and write down
two phrases in the boxes they think is correct? T and S
discuss why something belongs in one box and not the
other

2.1 Pre-Stage: Okay now we have these phrases so lets
practice them!

Im going to give you a slip of paper with two opinions.
Pick one and practice using these phrases when you
start your sentences. I want you to write down
something that your partner said.
Opinions are about robots like in the picture
2.3 Post-Stage:
Lets recap, what did your partner say? Do you find
using these phrases easy or hard to do?

2.1 Pre-Stage: Alright so now Im going to split the


class in half -- because were going to have a class
debate! So lets look at the projector. The people on the
right will have the first opinion. Yes social media is
good! The people on the left - you guys - will have the
other opinion social media is bad!

make. For ex--Now I want to give you about 5 to 7 minutes. Talk with
your group and write down some ideas to support your
point. Why do you think this is good?

will have to call out - debate ends up being a lot shorter than expected
