Supplement to the FHWA PC-STABL6 Users Guide

The STABL6H.EXE program is a modified version of STABL6. This version allows the
use of up to 40 layers of geogrids and up to 10 points on each layer. The following
changes to the manual apply to STABL6H:
Page 19 - C.3 Input restrictions (revised):
1.

No more than 40 layers may be input.

2.

A reinforcing layer must be specified by at least 2 but not more than 10 points.

3.

The reinforcing force must be positive.

4.

The inclination factor must be between 0.0 and 1.0. A factor of 0.0 specifies that
the reinforcing force acts in the direction of the reinforcement. A factor of 1.0
specifies that the force acts tangent to the failure surface.

RF02 -

The number of reinforcing layers specified exceeds 40.

RF03 -

The number of points defining a reinforcing layer exceeds 10.

Please note that the reinforcement option is implemented only for the Bishop method of
analysis, i.e., for circular failure surfaces. This may not be appropriate for all cases. In
order to evaluate overall stability it may be necessary to delete the reinforcing data to
allow the use of non-circular surfaces outside of the reinforced zone.

Administration regarding design with geosynthetics.
