ABSTRACT
Understandingabouthumanoriginsinformsourunderstandingofwhatitmeanstobehuman.Itis
reasonable,therefore,toconsiderthatanevolutionaryperspectivecanprovideinsightintothenatureand
processesofhumanlearningandeducation.Thisarticlereviewshowideasaboutevolutionhave
influencededucationalthinkinginthepast.Itthenconsidershowunderstandingofbraindevelopmentand
functionishelpingtoinspirenewthinkingaboutevolution.Thereviewconvergesonarangeofbenefits
thatmayarisefromtheinclusionofevolutionaryconceptswithinthefieldofmind,brain,andeducation.
Thesebenefitsincludescrutinyofevolutionaryneuromyth,reconsiderationoftheculturalandpolitical
statusofeducation,insightintonotionsofindividualdifference,andhelpwithstimulatinganddirecting
researcheffortsaimedatimprovingeducationaloutcomes.
