Summary statements of the authors main ideas

The National Guard computer at Andrews Air Force Base was hacked. The US did not
confront the hacker just yet and just was tracking the hackers moves, though they were
unsure if it was harmful because he wasnt doing anything completely harmful. The
hackers were kids being taught by a notorious hacker and once found were sentenced
three years prohibitions and hours of community service. Though soon after another
hacker hacked into computers at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and this time the
hacker was more advanced and was looking for specific information. Also we learn that
companies in America still find that hacking is not a major problem and companies only
start to worry about it once they are hacked for the first time. We soon meet Clarke who
does not really care about network security but will start to change his mind and start to
attempt and lead a change for securing Americas network because of various meetings
with different people. America then finds themselves in a war with Serbia, though
America will decide to use their advances in technology to their advantage in this battle.
They shut down television stations, send false information, and hack into Serbian phone
systems, all to gain an advantage. They eventually win war and this war shows the
military and the government the power of information warfare, cyberwarfare, and
network security.

Embedded quotation (page #)

How does it answer/relate to the Guiding Question?

During the war with Serbia

America used their advances
in technology to their
advantage: But the
aggressors broke the
passwords, sniffed out the
network, found holes,
burrowed through, and, once
inside took control.

This relates to my Guiding Question because

this is an example of how hacking is able to
change the pace of war, especially during a
time when technology is new and the idea of
cyberwarfare is unknown to the whole world
yet. This quote also shows how advanced
America is compared to other parts of the
world. Also if hacking is already this helpful to
America how far will it advance in the future?
