The Solution: Halliburtons Super Seal II line of floating

equipment. Super Seal II equipment is designed to perform
reliably under the most severe downhole conditions. In fact,
the Super Seal II valve, contained in all Super Seal II floating
equipment, is certified by Lloyds Register to meet API RP
10F Category IIIC specifications. Category III requires the
device to withstand a 24-hour flow of 10 bbl/min with a 2 to
4% sandladen 12.0 to 12.5 lb/gal mud. Category C requires
the device to withstand a 5,000-psi backpressure or an 80%
casing burst pressure (whichever is smaller) after an 8-hour,
400F heat soak. And,
Super Seal II
equipment provides

Super Seal II Down-Jet Float Shoe

Allows pressure testing of casing to 80% of yield strength

The Super Seal II down-jet float shoe includes the Super

Seal II float valve, which prevents cement backflow from
re-entering the casing ID. In addition to the center hole
through the float valve, four fluid ports are drilled in the
outer case below the float valve. These ports direct some of
the fluid downward during circulation. Pressurized fluid jets
out of the side ports and the guide nose, helping remove
cuttings and filter cake, creating turbulence around the shoe,
and improving cement distribution and casing-to-formation
bonding. Additionally, the external jets on the outer case
provide an alternative cement flowpath if the bottom center
port becomes blocked in the event that casing is landed on
the bottom of the hole.

Inner String Cementing with

Super Seal II Equipment

Super Seal II Nonrotating (NR)

Float Collar

Halliburtons Super Seal II floating equipment can also be

used for inner string cementing. This process allows
cementing large diameter strings through drillpipe or tubing
that is inserted and sealed in floating equipment. This
method is sometimes less costly than cementing large casing
using the conventional plug displacement method. Other
advantages include:

Super Seal II nonrotating (NR) float collars offer all the

features of standard Super Seal II float equipment, but they
are equipped with a NR plug seat that allows NR
cementing plugs with locking teeth to latch together during
drillout. When these NR plastic plugs are drilled out with
PDC bits, they can reduce drillout time by 90%. This
equipment is available only with the 2 3/4- and 4 1/4- in.
Super Seal II valve for 7- to 20-in. casing.

Large diameter cementing plugs are not required

By pumping through the smaller inner string, cement
contamination resulting from channeling inside casing
can be reduced

Super Seal II Tubing-Size

Floating Equipment

Cement is discharged outside the casing much faster after

mixing, reducing the risk of the cement slurry within the
casing having a highly accelerated setting time

Super Seal II tubing-size floating equipment is available in

both standard and HPUJ designs. Tubing-size float shoes
and collars prevent cement backflow from entering the
tubing string. Because of size restrictions, autofill devices are
not provided with tubing-size floating equipment. The case
material for all standard sizes and grades of equipment is
L-80 grade steel. Other material grades and premium
threads are available by special order. The 2 3/8- in. float
shoe and float collar includes the Super Seal 2 1/8-in.
valve. Standard float shoes and HPUJ float shoes are
available in 2 7/8-in. and 3 1/2-in. tubing sizes. Tubing-size
floating equipment should be drilled out with roller-cone
rock bits.

Reduces amount of cement that has to be drilled out of

large diameter casing

Halliburton also offers a

variety of additional service
capabilities to fit any
application. For example,
Super Seal II equipment is
available in a double valve
configuration. And all Super
Seal II equipment is available
with premium threads and
premium casing grades. Our
high-port float shoe is
also available in a
down-jet configuration.

Super Seal II Float Shoe

The Super Seal II standard float shoe attaches to the lower
end of the casing string. This float shoe includes the Super
Seal II backpressure valve assembly, which prevents cement
in the annulus from re-entering the casing ID. The plastic
valve and stem materials are surrounded by drillable
concrete, making the equipment easy to drill out with PDC
or roller-cone rock bits. The high-strength, durable rounded
nose safely guides the casing to the bottom of the hole. This
equipment is available in all tubing and casing sizes with
API 8-rd and buttress threads. The standard casing grade is
K-55 material. Customers can request any casing grade and
premium thread by special order.

Super Seal II Model 506 Reamer Shoe

Halliburton is one of the leading manufactures of cementing
casing equipment. Since Halliburtons original float valve
designs, several design and manufacturing changes has taken
place. The Super Seal II float valve was first introduced in
1986 and has been used in cementing operations in every
region of the world where reliability and dependability is
required. With more than 400,000 successful jobs completed
to date, the Super Seal II valve stands above all competitive
float valves available in the market today. The increased
demand for reamer shoe configurations to be incorporated
into conventional float shoes has resulted in a variety of
options and configurations being used to help ensure casing
can be successfully run to the desired depth the first time. A
typical application where reamer shoe technology provides
value to the user is when one or more of the following
situations are expected:
Bridging of the wellbore caused by formation swelling
Key seats
Cuttings bed or debris on the low side of deviated wells
Washouts

The latest reamer shoe technology offered by Halliburton is

offered in the Super Seal II Model 506 reamer shoe. The
Model 506 reamer shoe incorporates the flow durability,
pressure capability and category III-C rating that comes
standard with Super Seal II float valves. Additional features
incorporated in the Model 506 reamer shoe are:
Cutting structure ensures gage hole (360 coverage) while
running casing in and out of the well bore with or
without casing rotation
Back reaming cutting structure is a standard feature of
the Model 506 reamer shoe
Drillable and non drillable tapered noses help ensure
casing follows the well bore to the desired setting depth
Tapered composite nose is the standard option for the
Model 506 reamer shoe
Steel case designed to P-110 equivalent as a standard
Extended length stabilizer blades designed to reduce
casing vibration or whirl while reaming and reliable
standoff during cementing
Reduced lost time caused by tripping casing or BHA
The Super Seal II Model 506 reamer shoe can be
considered the cheapest insurance available to help
ensure casing running and cementing operations can
be performed successfully.
