Hunger Seminar

Today, you will participate in a seminar about the reading Marie Cloisette
Confronts Hunger. You will receive class work points for participation and
contribution to the seminar. This seminar can be a lively and energetic
debate/discussion about the moral issues raised in the story, but it is entirely
up to you. Regarding time, the seminar can take 20 minutes, but it can also
take up most of the class. It depends on your participation and discussion.
Rules for the seminar are as follows:
(Please read each rule. Check off each rule after you have read it and have
no questions)

Respect all other students comments (Automatic 0 points for


disrespecting comments of another student). This means that you
cannot interrupt other students. Wait for them to finish before you
respond.

All students must speak.

You only receive points for a substantive


contribution to the question or discussion. You must contribute
at least 2 times.

You do not need to raise your hand.

You may speak when there is a


pause. Mrs. Wallace will resolve any disputes about who can speak
next.

Direct your conversation to the other students.

Do NOT talk to Mrs.


Wallace This is a seminar discuss. Although Mrs. Wallace will ask
initial questions, your answer will be directed toward the class.
Respond to other students comments whenever you add to what
they said, or want to contradict it.

Do not monopolize the conversation.

You may contribute up to 5


times during this seminar, so make them worthwhile contributions!
