General Description Course provides an introduction to Electromagnetic Fields and their applications. Topics covered
include transmission lines, electrostatics, magnetostatics, time-varying fields, plane waves, antennas and waveguides.
Objectives: After successful completion of this course, the student will have a basic understanding of:
Text: Engineering Electromagnetics, 8th Edition, by William H. Hayt, Jr., and John A. Buck
Grading: There will be two tests, a final exam, homework, labs and pop quizzes.
Labs may take one or two weeks to complete with a new lab every two weeks. Lab schedules will be
established during the first week of class and labs will begin during the third week of class.
Pop quizzes can occur at any time, however, they will occur whenever the instructor deems that the class is not
prepared to start on time, if any student is using a computer, cell phone, ipod, ipad, etc., reading a newspaper,
socializing or otherwise being rude, disrespectful or disruptive during class.
Any student causing a pop quiz will receive a zero on the pop quiz and any student responsible for multiple pop
quizzes will, at the instructors discretion, receive a zero for their overall pop quiz score.
Each pop quiz will count 2% of the overall score, the remaining portion of the overall score will be weighted as
shown in the table below.
The tests will be given in the evening as part of a combined test/help session starting at 7:00 PM.
