Summer Internship Program (SIP)

INTRODUCTION
Summer Internship program (SIP) is a vehicle for
introducing and exposing students to the real-life
organizational and environmental situations, which cannot
be simulated in the classroom/ in-campus academic
ambience. This may be the most effective aid in enabling
students to relate management theory to practice. For
students, the internship (SIP) is an opportunity to
understand about the functioning of an organization and
experiencing what to live through after joining the
corporate world. It is an opportunity to explore, understand
work culture, expectations, demand of various profiles
and to learn the art and skills of information/data
identification, compilation classification, acquisition,
processing and presentation. Companies realize that SIP
is an occasion to assess a student for possible future
employment.
SIP assignments/ projects should be conceived and
structured in such a way that those must be of direct
professional interest to the host-organizations and are
necessarily time-bound. The project work done by
students need to be appreciated eventually both by
company/organization and IMM.

INTERNSHIP PROJECT
Internship Projects are generally, interdisciplinary in nature
which may involve assigning independent responsibility to
the summer interns, under the guidance of a senior
executive. Such internship projects are industry analysis
internship projects. The other type of summer internship
projects is very much specialized. The nature of
internship may be specialized depending on students
area of interest and the requirements of the companies as
well The institute allows students to choose an industry
analysis internship project or specialized internship
project.
For proper coordination and ensuring organized and
smooth conduct of SIP, an IMM core faculty would also
act as a co-supervisor /co-guide to the student and
thereby co-ordinate with the representative of the
company in monitoring the students progress in the
project work.

Company Feedback
In an effort to strengthen and improve the SIP Program,
IMM collects feedback on the internship programme from
the company. A feedback form is designed for this
purpose and aims at collecting companys view and
opinions on the students and the SIP programme. The
Company Feedback Form is enclosed.

EVALUATION
The summer project is equivalent to two courses for
students of the PGDM programme. Company senior
executive, who is the project guide, supervises and
evaluates the performance of the student during his/her
summer internship and sends feedback on the same to
the institute. The summer intern submits a copy of the
summer report to his faculty guide who finally evaluates the
student's performance based on the feedback from the
Company Project Guide and the project report submitted.
