September 14, 2016--Media Center

All meetings will be in Ms. Laniers room at 3:15pm.

Last year surplus
5 projectors
23 CPUs
32 Laptops
Mike was able to take a few laptops in surplus and get some parts for repairs
30 laptops have been placed back on each laptop cart
Each department has 30
There are 4 laptops left over to do extra in school
Departments with carts--Science, Social Studies, Math, English, Media, ESL, CTE(iPad),
MacBooks
Concern for getting new technology...batteries dying
Suggestions--Della Jones: there is about $3000 left in account from Kenan. We still have
to get some high tech computer to run the broadcast media visual equipment that will be
~$1700.
Leah Pittman--Harvest Stem Day money
Crismon & Dansby--Grants, Grant writing committee, Donorschoose, Ziggity,
Cassell--Dawn Craft may be able to assist with the process
Greenspan--He and Wassum discussed possibly providing a school-wide PD to train on
how to complete donorschoose
Devone--Harvest Stem Day
E-mail sent to request members for HSD committee, asking for 1 volunteer per
department
Opportunity to raise funds for our school and our goal this year is to take it to the next
level to raise school funds
Date is still TBD
Asking for suggestions from staff so that we avoid other conflicts
Last year had stem in title but did not have many STEM activities--this year we want to
increase the amount
1st HSD meeting will be September 15, 2016 right after school in the media center and
will occur weekly for the next 6 weeks.
Deadline for fundraisers is October 10, 2016 for county. Get those to Della Jones ASAP.
Last year the event lasted from 9-3
November 5th is tentative date since we have step show that day it may be a good way
to increase participation.
Booths need to be completely set up by 8am.
Need to discuss new ways of advertising.

Review of Goals and decide if there are any changes we want to make. Typically 2-3
goals.
Presentation of goals as they stand now and open question--as a group do we want to
make any changes.
First goal was set based on county-wide rate of increase.

Questions
Greenspan--For goals 1 and 3 posed as double negative. Is there a value?
Response--They were both originally written as positive and Central office made them
be changed to what they currently are?
Yerby--In the plan are there specific action steps?
Lanier and Holton--yes they are farther down in the document. Each goal is broken down
into strategies with timelines noted for each. An Example: On pg 60 area of study #3
New goals for 2016 presented.
Dansby--Will the county allow us to change the smart goals themselves?
Holton--Yes.
Lanier--Go back and look over everything and if you have any suggestions for changes,
let her know or email her.
Holton--Suggestion that we have 2-3 goals which means we need to condense or
eliminate something.
Jones--We have to show proof of meeting these goals so make sure we are realistic in
what we choose
Teacher Duty Stations--Go back to departments and discuss to them the importance of
being on your station by 7:40am.
Shantel Crespo--one of the student representatives for this year.
Dansby--Shantel, What things can we do to increase student/parent engagement?
Shantel--Cant really answer right now. She can ask others to try to find out from
students
Yerby--SGA would like to start next week. Revised the constitution and bylaws sent to
administration for approval. Believer in strong mission and vision how do we get kids to
buy in to our school and what it is about. Are we going to work on action steps together
as a committee?
Lanier--Yes. Send suggestions to her so that if we need to meet before the next date we
can do so.

Inconsistency with tardy policy
Multiple announcements throughout the day. The intercom is used to frequently during
class. Mrs. Batts puts all announcements on website. Singling out teachers on intercom.
Cant announcements be displayed on tv. Announcements go faster when someone else
does them. Mrs. Newton and Mr. Jones do announcements way faster. Safari Montage
can play announcements on screens throughout day.
Isnt that the purpose of the broadcast equipmentto show information to students.
Calling out names on intercomit would be more professional to say last names like
Mrs. Newton not Jackie Newton
Can we do away with afternoon announcementsCan they be more precise or only for
emergency stuff not restate of morning announcements

Take out announcements for individual teachers
Take out scholarship announcements
Is there somewhere for students to get them--guidance is discussing setting up a remind
for scholarships
Students do not listen to announcements. Maybe teachers not doing their job is why they
are not listening.
E-mailing the announcements to students daily would help make them see them more
SGA President should record announcements each afternoon and then teachers play it
every morning.
Revamping duty stations for lunch and learn
We need to get some tournaments going on during learn A and teachers should help
with setting them up not just the athletic department
Can students hang out in breezeway in front of media building
The duty schedule plan said yes but Mr. Holton said no
Spoke with Mr. Jones and he was having a hard time watching the students on the field.
Take the person off of the back hall and put them on the field.
If teachers will finalize their club schedule it will assist with students placement
Are we going to allow clubs to take place during learn A?
We need to figure out something for kids to do that have above 80
If they go to lunch during A then they will be free during B
Harvest Stem Day
Coming along. Some vendors have signed up-_Sensations, MaryKay, Shirleys Heavenly
Hands, collecting some donations and hopefully we can start taking pictures of them so
people can start shopping now.
2 banners were taken from Mrs. Pittmans room but we are getting some more. 1
professional will be made for front of school. Mr. Dansby is the only teacher that has
donated to the GoFund me so much so we thank you.
Homecoming Dance
Let students know that they cannot buy tickets at the door and that they can come as
they are. They do not have to dress up. The dance will happen regardless of how many
show up.
Why cant we sell tickets at door?--It was one of Mr. Holtons requirements
It would help to let a student make the announcements for the dance--Suggestion

Jrs. got back MockACT scores--not good
Mr. Dansby will be passing out some flyers and as of now only ~24% of our juniors are
college ready.
