Dear Friends and Supporters of Escuela de Educacin Especial,

The new school year started very well with plenty of optimism for the future. Below are
summaries of just a few of the many exciting things happening at EEE. Visit Our Website

EEE Partners with Global Giving Foundation

The school registered with Global Giving, a worldwide charitable giving site, and met their
September Challenge enabling us to become full fledged partners. An educational project
page posted on their site raised US$9,190 toward our goal of providing an educational
scholarship for each and every one of our students. We aren't there yet but we are on our
way. To all our friends and supporters who read, liked and shared the project, and to the
many who were able to make a donation, we are extremely grateful for the extraordinary
support. Watch for more news, photos and update reports on the project and thank you for
continuing to share our project with others. Click here to visit the project page Educate a Deaf

Volunteer Program Gets Into Full Swing

Brittany and Justin Barney Join EEE as Volunteer Coordinator Team
Who could have imagined a better equation?
1 an energetic pre-school teacher of deaf children with a Masters Degree in Deaf Ed
+
2 an enthusiastic high school Spanish teacher with a passion for leading young teens
=
3 the ideal couple living their dream to reside with their young children in San Miguel de
Allende while volunteering to serve others.
And we at EEE are so fortunate to have Brittany and
Justin help roll out the new Volunteer Program. We are
proud to call this fine and talented team our very own!
Our first three young volunteers arrived from Phoenix,
Arizona in early September; Lizzie, Kristyn and Emily.
They have been busy working with our students in the
classroom, helping out in the kitchen, assisting with
fundraising, and much much more.

Photography Program

Fernando's Story

Under the tutelage of volunteer Shannon

Reece, a fine local San Miguel

Any 17 year old lad would be excited about

the possibilities of what the future might offer

photographer, some the older students

recently took part in a Basic Introduction to
Photography course over an eight week
period. It was quickly once again
determined that we have many talented and
artistic young people attending EEE.
We would love to continue the program in
the coming months by somehow acquiring
inexpensive digital cameras for the students
to use so that they can become better
familiar with different features and how to
operate them; as well as to learn more
about good photo composition. Ultimately,
our goal is to have one of our own students
trained to lead the classes. A good way to
teach our students how to fish for
themselves, don't you agree?

him, and Fernando is no exception! Although

a shy fellow with a very low level of hearing,
his sweet personality shines through his
eyes and through his smile the moment he
greets you. His favorite things about school
are learning to better read and write (he is
currently at a grade 4-5 level) and learning
to better communicate with his fellow
students at school through Mexican Sign
Language. He enjoys exercise and in his
spare time washes cars on the street to
earn a little money. Fernando dreams of
continuing his education to the college level,
or perhaps training to be a chef or a
carpenter. He also realizes that should the
opportunity of any sort of paying job present
itself, he would jump at the opportunity to
become self-sufficient. His home life is not a
happy one (no one in his family can
communicate with him in sign language)
and we are concerned he may become a
youth at risk should he turn to a life on the
streets.
To help secure a more promising future for
Fernando, we intend to help him stay in
school to complete his education and to
receive valuable job training skills ...
we can do no less!.

As always, we would love to hear from you or have you come visit the school to meet the
students. Feel free to email us at info@eeesma.com
In gratitude,
John Doherty
